Often great shows (Simpsons, Family Guy, Seinfeld, The US Office etc) start off slow before they find thier footing. Often when you try to re watch the show's run, the begining of the series can become cringe inducing compared to its peak. But what shows actually started out strong from the start?
The first two that come to mind are Futurama and M*A*S*H*. Both of those while getting better over the shows run, had a strong start to the series compared to alot of other shows.

The first season of Heroes was great. The rest, not so much. Breaking Bad also started strong and continued to be great until the end.

In the minority that actually liked and still does like the 1st Season of South Park It's great, but the evolution of the show and animation make it inferior.

In the minority that actually liked and still does like the 1st Season of South Park Season 1 is one of my favorite seasons. While 2 through ~9 were entertaining, the series really starting getting good around season 10 and only improved from there.

Fair do's It's just I hear Matt Stone and Trey Parker can't stand it and I don't really know why as I still think it's good. It certainly hasn't aged well but in a weird way I kind of like that and yes it has only gotten better in time

For a show of its type, Brooklyn Nine-Nine came in pretty well formed from the get go.

I liked the first seasons of Oz, Family Guy, the Walking Dead, Most Extreme Elimination Challenge and Heroes. I know I'll think of more as people post.
And love or hate "reality" TV I really enjoyed the first season of Survivor. It was very fresh and new at the time. Same for the first seasons of 'Merican Idol, Big Brother and So You Think You Can Dance. Before those shows got tired, played out and mimicking so many times they were really good.

Almost any show about or involving precocious kids loses charm as it goes along (Diff'rent Strokes, Parent Hood, Home Improvement, Family Matters, Full House, Step by Step).
It doesn't really have seasons, but I'd argue that DBZ was at it's best for the first 50 or so episodes and either gradually or steeply declined from there.

The O.C. put all their eggs in that first season basket. GREAT season...they had nothing after that.

I actually prefer the first season of the (American) Office to a lot of the later ones, in no small part because they were willing to show the Michael Scott character as the ass he was.
Gilmore Girls's and The Wire's first seasons were probably their best as well.

The O.C. put all their eggs in that first season basket. GREAT season...they had nothing after that. This. So much this. Never has a show managed to cram so much into one season that they had nothing else to go on (or at least nothing good) for literally the rest of their existence more than The OC did. I'm the type of person who hates owning parts of box sets so, for example, I own the earlier seasons of The Shield which, while good, paled in comparison to Season 3 on over and I own House which, whilst still watchable by the end, was not half the show it once was so it says a lot when I literally just own Season One of The OC and none of the three seasons that followed it.

The first season of Community is still the only one I'd rate any higher than average.
