I actually played a bit of Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric today, and holy shit is it terrible. It's ugly, boring, and the gameplay feels like an early tech demo that was never tested by anyone. So much worse than Sonic 2006, imo. Thoughts?

I quite enjoy the cartoons though.
Nothing ground breaking but still good silly fun.

I just want to wave a magic wand so the Sonic franchise would go back to its 1993 golden age, when the Freedom Fighter/SatAM canon was the prominent one and his games were selling and getting critical praise.

Sonic Boom is if Ed Wood was a video game developer.

Now you know why Big Red Button is made up of FORMER Naughty Dog members See, that's what I really don't get. I looked up Big Red Button and a lot of those former Naughty Dog employees helped make awesome platformers like the early Crash Bandicoot games and Jak and Daxter. How they couldn't translate that into at least a passable Sonic platforming game is stunning to me considering how poor the platforming mechanics are. I wasn't expecting Uncharted or anything, but damn. Also I know that Sonic Boom isn't the first game to do this, but stop with combat. "Sonic jumps on robots head and destroys it" is all you need.

Only the Sonic franchise can make a worst game of all time ('06), and then top THAT.

It builds very little meter, but it has almost instant recovery. It's a solid projectile, imo.

I love that the show takes the piss out of the franchise a little in a way that doesn't come across as being from a place of mockery, just, having a sense of humor. It's a shame the game is garbage.

Show's great. Tried playing the game at a friend's house and couldn't deal with all the glitches, the clunky as hell controls, and the speed. My lord, could that game have been any slower.

Sonic Boom is the most I've ever enjoyed ANYTHING Sonic. The show, for all the right reasons, and the game, for all the wrong reasons.

Sega infuriate me, they had a good thing in "Generations", fair enough it wasn't amazing but it had a good foundation to build on and all they had to do was create new levels (revamp old ones) in the sequels.
Same with "Unleashed" I thought the Daytime segments were Decent and if they hadn't had the damn werehog crap and tightened up the daytime segments then it would have been great.
Gimmicks killed the sonic franchise, KEEP IT SIMPLE

Gimmicks killed the sonic franchise, KEEP IT SIMPLE That's one thing about video games that's truly fascinating. If you have good gameplay and good software, you don't need to be very creative with how things are made. You can just rehash the same basic material over and over again with improved graphics, music and UI and there's not much else that needs doing. They don't reinvent the wheel with CoD. It's by no means one of my favorite series, but it's sold extremely well because there's a certain formula that works and it hasn't been tinkered with. Most RPGs use stock characters and have stock storylines, but the quality of the writing and the gameplay of the big name RPGs has let those flourish as top-tier franchises.

Exactly Hell they could have just made console versions of the handheld games, those are awesome, even the Bioware one "chronicles"
