I know I've said this before, but it's still kind of flabbergasting how pretty much none of the original generation of game studios seem to have any CLUE of what to do with their legacy franchises. Capcom, Namco, Square, Sega... pretty much only Nintendo really seems to get it and even then some of their franchises could use a little more love. At the same time, at least they're acknowledging they exist. There also seems to be a tendency to have the attention span and memory of a goldfish when it comes to revisiting old franchises. Just look at Namco's admittedly ambitious attempt to reboot all of their franchises, even the obscure ones, with online comics and shorts, only to barely market it at all and then pull the plug on it. There's no patience. It says a lot when anymore, 9 times out of 10 the fan output (fangames, fancomics, whatever) is better thought out and put together than the official output. It also says a lot when you have companies throwing out C&D or takedown orders to fan properties despite the fact that they're not doing a damn thing with the franchise they're ostensibly defending. They should do what Square Enix is doing with "Square Enix collective"

Meh, the only thing I really preferred regarding western Sonic back in the day was changing Eggman's name to Robotnik. Even if you make Japanese-Sonic the true game canon, you could still dub Robotnik as Eggman's name for the English world.
EDIT: Another thing I liked about western Sonic (specifically SatAM/Archie) is that there were a lot more anthros like Sonic and friends. It would've been cool in games like Sonic Adventure to see as many anthros as humans on Sonic-Earth.

Must say that the cartoon is pretty good. I really like how the gang hate Eggman, not really because he's trying to kill them on a regular basis, but because he's an annoying git. Just adds and amusing dynamic to it all.

I freakin love Eggman in this show.
His more of a frenemie rather than an outright enemy, despite still trying to destroy them etc.
I always have liked a villain with a sence of humor.
Rather than being all "NOOOO Curse you I'll get you next time!" His just " Yeah I really got to start doing that"
I do enjoy his character

they should of just tried to improve on lost worlds because that was almost good. I have no idea what they were think with boom. Also the shows ok i guess if your a young kid but god i hate the way the sonic charcters sound. but even if you love cartoons which i do theres way better ones out there then wasting your time with sonic boom.

I think the the current cast is the best so far, and Roger Craig Smith is the best Sonic (English anyway); I'm probably in the minority around here, but I have no nostalgia for Jaleel White's nasally voice (kinda like how I don't have any for that Mobius stuff from the early 90s, as good as SatAM was). I also like how Boom-Sonic sounds a little older to distinguish him from his mainline counterpart.

Sonic has stunk since the 90's IMO.
Even the Adventures that people like and are well regarded were janky.
It seems like they just cannot put this guy over in 3D for whatever reason.

The fact that this thread is still going and how a lot of fans (especially LPers) seen to take such glee in kicking dirt on Sonic depresses the hell out of me.
It's not like even people want Sonic to be put out of his misery, it's more like they flat-out hate the character/franchise. It's tragic.

Game Informer always seemed to be a really weird example of irrational Sonic hatred. I remember them admitting that they didn't like any Sonic game in a feedback section once and every review they do of a Sonic game seems intent on attacking the whole franchise. It's like Sonic murdered their dog or something.

They were trying way too hard to be snarky for a while, every other issue was either burying Sonic (including Riders, which wasn't a classic but was pretty fun) or bitching about how (insert random JRPG hero) didn't look manly enough. The worst gaming print mag I've ever read, bar none.

Didn't GI give Generations a bad review just because it had levels beyond the Genesis era?

And if not that, they basically just go for the ad hominem and say the Sonic fanbase (which may or may not be lumped in with furries depending on how generous they're feeling) automatically negates anything good that Sonic tries to accomplish.

And you know what that hate is based on? A few poorly drawn OCs and Sonic recolors (from predominately very young fans, it should be noted), and the same debates over characters you'll find in most fandoms. Funny, I've found my fair share of dynamite Sonic fan art, and some of it was created by artists in the furry community.
