Thought this could be an interesting companion thread to the one about bad payoffs. Two that come to mind are Hogan as the NWO's third man and Jericho debuting after the millennium clock ended in 1999. Although with Jericho it was hardly a surprise by that time (at least if you were part of the IWC), it was still awesome though and I've watched that segment a ton since.

Your selections are best examples, but I'm a fan of the hilarious ones, especially when they're still funny in the present time. The Greater Power and Who ran over Stone Cold are some of my favorites because of the comedy each one brought with it. I also like the payoff to why CM Punk left the WWE, even though with this recent lawsuit news it seemed to have sparked back up and doesn't seem to be over. I'll count the podcast as the payoff.

There are probably alot of better ones, but as for crowd reactions, DDP as Sara's stalker got a huge reaction from the crowd. Just disregard what happened following it.

I loved Ricky Steamboat returning to WCW as Dustin Rhode's mystery partner at the Clash in 1991.

Undertaker.
What could have been a horrible early 90s WWF gimmick has lasted nearly 25 years thanks to the talents of the performer. If WWE ever wound up doing a single induction into the hall of fame (like Andre), Undertaker would be in a class all by himself. He was put into some silly feuds in the mid 90s, but he always made it work with the best of his ability.

It's not on the same level as the nWo or anything, but Ricky Steamboat unmasking from the Dragon costume to reveal himself as Dustin Rhodes' mystery partner at Clash XVII has always been one of my favourites, just for Arn and Larry's reactions:
"NO! NO! NO! NOT RICKY STEAMBOAT!!!!" "He's just a man!"
Arn staring at his tag title and gently rubbing it before he handed it to the ref as if it was the last time he'd touch the belt was also a nice touch.

Hogan being the third man is one of the best but since it's already taken I'll go with Eric Bischoff being revealed as the RAW GM. Apparently it was a shock even to the wrestlers and I doubt any fan would ever expect Bischoff to turn up in the WWE.

Yeah, I guess Malenko as Ciclope wasn't a mystery, but it was an awesome surprise reveal.

Steamboat had a great three year run with WCW after the 1991 debut. His early WWF had a disappointing ending, his late 80s NWA run was way too short and his WWF 1991 could have been so much better but his 1991-94 run in WCW featured him in the top tier in some way. It's just a shame his end led to a Duggan-Austin squash.

Lance Storm's mystery partner in the main event of living Dangerously '98.
First it gave us a completely unexpected surprise.
THEN it gave the the elevation of what the fans really wanted to see.
Heyman knew how to please the fans.

I'm surprised not a mention of Andre's heel turn on Pipers Pit which set up Wrestlemania 3.

Off topic: I'll quote myself on from the ECW PPV thread on Heyman giving the fans what they want. "My personal favorite is Wrestlepalooza 98. In a night where everyone thought Sabu was going to beat RVD they go to a draw. Where everyone thought Al Snow was going to win the title.... Shane Douglas retained! Lol at all the people who talk about the current product not giving people what they wanted!" Back on topic: Kane returning in 2000 with Paul Bearer on Raw.
