Except not in the way you'd expect. Edit: forgot to add that it's a bit graphic. Yeah...

Nice production values for a fan film, but are we sure this isn't a Michael Bay parody?

I thought this was parts of movies cleverly put together until Dawson asked the girl from 24 about Jason and named Bulk and Skull. Oh my.

Nice production values for a fan film, but are we sure this isn't a Michael Bay parody? It was put together by the producer behind The Grey, A Walk Among the Tombstones, Dredd, etc., as well as a couple of other interesting "fan" films featuring The Punisher (Dirty Laundry) and Venom (The Truth in Journalism). In other words, we are talking about someone who really knows how to make movies, not some random fan.

I wish this could be a "thing". I'd love to see what the dark and gritty reboot Machine Empire would look like.

I've always liked to imagine what a Power Rangers reboot would look like, I usually imagined it as a modern-era action animated series with a bit more drama/character development to go along with the kung fu fun stuff...this was obviously way off on one side of maturity the scale, but awesome attempt, nonetheless.

I love that it totally works even if you don't know anything about MMPR. Just as a stand alone SciFi short, its pretty damn good.

I agree, even without the Power Ranger references the film brings up some intriguing ideals (IE: Child soldiers metaphor) that can be used for the basis of a new Movie or television IP.

First off, yeah more Tommy wanking. We need that.
Two, somebody watched Kamen Rider First and said, "This would be a good idea for MMPR."
Three, for MMPR it wouldn't work. Why would the military design arsenal's around Dinosaurs. You would get the same questions that were asked by the team in RPM. However if you were to use one of the early sentai or even Ohranger it could work.

JDF's... a bit odd about the Power Rangers "brand", like this thing is just wrong because it's not good for the brand, the former red ranger being charged with murder is bad for the brand... does he have any direct investment in the thing beyond being an actor?

Can't argue with JDF. That being said I still enjoyed the short film.

Honestly, didn't really like it. Visually it looks good(fight scenes were "meh"), but they were trying way too hard to be "mature". The plot felt like they just slapped together everything they could to seem edgy. It seemed to dwell a lot on being depressing.
I have no problem with an ultraviolent power rangers one-shot film, but this doesn't work that well.

It's hilariously bad. Blood, drugs, boobs, guns, stabbings, headsplosions, WE'RE SO EDGY GUYS.
I loved PR back in the day but it's a goofy-ass kids show with rainbow spandex and rubber monsters. If you're grittying that up, you go to the tone of the Marvel movies- Iron Man, Guardians of the Galaxy, Avengers, that level of gritty AT MOST. Hell Pacific Rim is basically Power Rangers for adults and it didn't go this overboard.
This came off as people too insecure to admit that they have fond memories for a kid's show, so desperately tried to prove it's so dark and cool and adult now, and totally not lame that we're watching it. Childhood nostalgia ain't nothing to be insecure about.
Seriously the only bits I enjoyed were the dance video, and the fight scene right at the end (minus the blood).
