I already think the MCU is way too bloated and convoluted as-is, so adding yet another layer to it doesn't have me too excited. The lack of an origin story, on the other hand, does. That was the reason I skipped out on the Amazing Spider-Man movies. As good as they may have been, I just didn't want to spend 40 minutes pretending to wonder what a radioactive spider bite could possibly mean for our intrepid hero. So it's too convoluted for you? But throwing in a character with no backstory or introduction is a great idea?

Peter Parker as Spider-Man in high school. I've never seen that in a movie before. You're right, but hear my original pitch... Vampires... in World War II!

I love Spider-man, so any time we get more Spider-man announced, I think "Awesome, more Spider-man."
Your mileage may vary.

So it's too convoluted for you? But throwing in a character with no backstory or introduction is a great idea? Everyone knows who Spider-Man is and how he gets his powers at this point. An origin story is just treading old ground; in the case of Amazing Spider-Man, it came out within the same decade as Raimi's version, which made it even more unnecessary. Failing to retread common knowledge isn't at all comparable to the labyrinthine plot of the MCU.

I'm not too familiar with the guy so I looked up his pictures. He looks like a mash-up of Andrew Garfield, David Tennant and Zack Morris so I can see him fitting the part well enough. It is still a shame to lose Garfield though. He was really great in the role and I still say Amazing 1 was the best Spider-Man movie ever made. Such a shame one bad sequel sunk all that potential.

Peter Parker as Spider-Man in high school. I've never seen that in a movie before. I read that last sentence in Michael Cole's voice. "I've never seen Batista go up to the top rope before!".

I will get zero thrill out of seeing Spiderman in an Avengers film if he's not played by Maguire or even Garfield. It really kinda defeats the object. Also, another Spiderman? Already? Really? Just like Ben Affleck's Batman, it's just not needed. The MCU was pretty much perfect from Iron Man up to Avengers Assemble; I knew the bubble had to burst somewhere. While I'm as apathetic about it as you, with RDJ is expected to either leave the Marvel fold at the end of his contract or limit his involvement to just being a minor character, Marvel obviously want to build up a big name character to take his place. Spidey fits the bill.

Sure it is probably the most ambitious movie series in terms of universe building, and spread out over a lot of movies, but it is all pretty straightforward.

Perhaps. The movies individually are generally easy to follow but trying to keep track of the interconnecting stuff, like the significance of the Infinity Gems/Stones and who has them at any given time, the motivations of certain villains, etc. is daunting, at least for me. It comes down to personal preference but the two superhero movies I've most enjoyed from Marvel (Days of Future Past and Guardians of the Galaxy) have had either nothing or very little to do with the overarching storyline.

He does know Peter was out of High School before the book even hit the 40-issue mark right? As for "memorable arcs"...erm, other than what happened with Betty Brant and maybe the cowardice trilogy, the only other really significant arc of those early years was the Master Planner storyline, and that was the one that dealt with his graduation

There have been tons of flashback stories that had Peter still in high school. And Ultimate Spidey stayed a teenager for most of the run, I believe.

Just don't be another origin story Kevin Feige already said it won't be. Its not tied to any of the other Spider-Man films, but assumes you already know who Spider-Man is. They did the same thing with Hulk.

There have been tons of flashback stories that had Peter still in high school. Ask any comic expert and that won't cite Untold Tales OR the recent Learning to Crawl in particular. Most stick to what is established first, and what was established first was a Peter who went through High School quick as a flash (and frankly, USM outstayed it's welcome in that setting by the time Bagely left)

So we're gonna see Peter in high school before his powers and then after he gets his powers? So we're getting ANOTHER origin story?
