Maybe Marvel can put out an Old Man Spidey franchise to balance it out, like a reworked Spider-Man: Reign.
Spider-Gramp, Spider-Gramp, naps as long as a Spider-Gramp can...

I'm on board for it being a younger Spidey who doesn't just magically go to college. At least it isn't yet another origin story.
Still a shame we aren't getting Miles, but I guess that was a pipe dream anyway.

This is the first time Spider-Man will interact with the rest of the Marvel Universe on film. That's huge. It needed to be Peter Parker because in the eyes of the majority of the world for 5 decades, he IS Spider-Man.

I'm just waiting for the day when Sony starts green lighting Spider-Man spec scripts and fan fiction arbitrarily just to hold onto those Spider-Man rights forever.

Maybe they can start using the Daily Bugle in the MCU now.
Too late for Ben Urich to be working there, but can still be used right ?

While ideally I'd love to see Miles in the MCU canon as a partner/friend of Peter's, I agree it probably had to be Pete in this scenario.

Superman movie to have Joseph Gordon Levitt's character from DKRises as Batman. A huge event in superhero films. You need the most iconic versions of those characters.

I'm glad they aren't going with an origin story again. Three origin stories in what 15 years? I just hope they don't put this out and decide to reboot it again. I really liked Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker and I wish they had kept him for these films. It wasn't his fault that the last one was such a cluster.

They should at least bring in JK Simmons as J.J. Jameson again. He's f***ing perfection in that role.

I read that as Dara O'Briain at first. I'd definitely go and see it if that was the case. Or, you know, just go the Spider-Girl route and just give him a happy ending, since they're already mining the MC2 universe for Ant-Man anyway. That would be a very different film from what I imagine they're aiming for.

I don't mind Spidey being younger as a big part of Spiderman has always been how he is trying to juggle being a normal kid and a hero at the same time (and he's way younet in the recent spiderman shows) it also adds to the idea that Spidey doesn't see himself on The Avengers' level.
I always kind of felt that Spidey needed to be someone who the audience could watch grow into the role.while I do think both Maguire and Garfield did decent jobs I think where they missed was showing the stress of being Spidey.

I did'nt mean go that route immediately, I meant years down the line My lack of knowledge about the subject means I only had a vague idea of what you were saying and whether it would be a good idea or not, I was just making a cheap joke about the "happy ending" bit which has failed miserably.

It needed to be Peter Parker because in the eyes of the majority of the world for 5 decades, he IS Spider-Man. Because Miles is a minority character. That's really all it comes down to. I've had arguments with other people over it, and they bring up things like Peter's stale and already had five movies (ignoring that he's had none as part of the wider Marvel canon), he's not the 'current' Spider-Man, and Miles is a more dynamic character, but in the end if Miles wasn't black-Latino nobody would be pushing for his inclusion over Peter. I don't want to trivialise that, but I'm definitely in the camp where it makes no sense to throw out a character with half a century of history of interacting with the characters that he now shares the cinematic universe with for the first time in favour of a character that's only been around for three and a half years.

If they Hank Pym'd Peter Parker, I would've quit the MCU.

Good grief. Never ever thought I would say this. But the movies are killing my love for a superhero. Super-saturation at this point. We need(ed) a serial, not more mop-up jobs to clean up a series of messes. It's just killing the credibility and importance and the reason to care about the hero.

Idt we will see another Spidey reboot as long as the MCU runs. If anything, we'd see Miles take the role down the road, which is the best scenario. An aging Peter Parker giving it to Miles say 15-20 years down the road. By that stage it will make perfect sense.

As far as this goes, I really wish they had stuck with Andrew Garfield, but, then again, I kind of enjoyed Amazing Spider-Man 2.
