I was re-watching WCW and when the little feud that was Shane Douglas and Ric Flair happened it looked like Flair was just not into it. The match was tough to watch and it looks like it could have been better. Flair looked like he wanted nothing to do with Douglas. Are there anymore instances of this, where the performers put on bad matches because they hated the angle they were in at the time?

Flair and Scott Steiner, during an early push for him evidently. Scott's mentioned it and, when asked about it and seeing the match, Lance Storm said that Ric did seem to sabotage the match.

All of the old guys in WCW phoned it in except probably Randy Savage. Look at how crappy almost all of the nWo beatdowns/group segments were. They didn't do anything in them.
Second nomination goes to everyone in the 1994 Royal Rumble

Curt Hennig in WCW was clearly there just to coast his way through as many pay days as possible.

He was a little more fair than that, but the main problem was that Flair and Herd were having serious problems. He wanted to make Flair put over Scott big at his own expense, and understandably, Flair was hesitant to do that since he knew Herd was mainly looking for an excuse to get rid of Flair for some time by then, and "We don't need him, look how good Scott is" would be one. Steiner, also understandably, was pissed off that Flair f***ed him over, and I don't think he's ever forgotten, nor forgiven, Flair dragging the match down.

Jeff Hardy's first TNA run was quite phoned in.

RVD toward the end of his TNA run unless he was paired with a friend. Curt Hennig in WCW was clearly there just to coast his way through as many pay days as possible. I dunno, he seemed like he was having a blast as part of the West Texas Rednecks, he just wasn't the performer he was in the ring thanks to injuries.

As much as I've heard that gimmick maligned, I guess I figured Curt hated it. Personally, I loved it.

Hercules' final WWF tv match vs. Sid was definitely a phone in.

Curt Hennig in WCW was clearly there just to coast his way through as many pay days as possible. In fairness to Curt, his back injury had virtually retired him twice in the previous five years. He clearly couldn't work at the level he used to and evidently felt that attempting to do so would most likely cause the injury to flare up again and finish his career for good. Better to coast comfortably and continue earning a living from a fat guaranteed contract than to try to push past your limits and lose it all.

I started a thread awhile back about HHH phoning it in when he feuded with Scott Steiner. It was just a placeholder storyline to get Evolution started and Hunter could not have looked less interested in any part of the Scott Steiner feud. Well done

I dunno, Curt was pretty much a Minnesota Redneck and proud of it and he got a face run with a bunch of likeminded veterans in spite of what WCW's management wanted, I can't imagine him hating that too much.

Goldust in the WWF in '98 and '99 struck me as half-assing just about everything. I remember when he came back in 2002 and had some crazy-good matches with RVD, and it was like, "Whoa. This guy's actually TRYING."
