Well, that was kinda the point. They obviously wanted it to be super awkward for a bit to sell the announcers getting murked by Brock. Yeah but Vince did him no favors with that Rusev line. V: Quick tell them Rusev is coming out to face Cena! B: Here comes Rusev to his title. *Dean Ambrose theme starts* V: *Choking from laughter* B: Oh...its Dean. Sorry.

He was doing his best Todd Grisham impression out there. It was awful.
When's the last time it could be said that commentary improved with Lawler around? That was weird.

Made Saxton look like an idiot more than anything.

That had to be a rib on Saxton, lol. I agree that his tone had to be intentional. Based on the fact that they refused to flip the table back over and how long they took to sell the beating Lesnar put on everyone. Kudos to Cole for taking that bump. That's gotta sting for a guy his size. I wonder if he gets paid extra for that.

I still think Byron is really good, I don't know that there was a way to successfully call a show by yourself while also playing up the whole "Well, everyone just got slaughtered here" angle. He had the deck stacked against him, certainly. If this had been like right before the main event, that'd have been fine, but they left him stranded for too long.

They should have brought King in from the start, because Neville was the one that suffered from Byron's lack of energy and excitement.

I just looked at it as he was in complete shock that his broadcast partners were all destroyed by Lesnar.
It reminded me of Monty from Major League after Ukler passed out drunk drinking JD on the call.

Would you really kill a show's momentum and the debut of Neville, who you hope can one day be a star in your company, by ribbing a commentator and putting him out there to fail? I have a feeling they put him out there and he just bombed on his own, and had to send Lawler out there to save him. Lawler coming in 45 minutes later didn't make a heck of a lot of sense if the plan was to use him all along.
Say what you will about Vince & Dunn, but production is something they still want to look and sound completely professional. Purposely having a guy out there mumbling and acting like a deer in the headlights on one of your biggest free shows of the year doesn't seem very sensible.

I felt bad for him. Doing his first (?) live announcing on RAW would probably be scary enough but having to do it solo, while standing, for half an hour+ was like they were setting him up to fail. It would be like putting a rookie wrestler in a 60 minute Iron Man match with the Great Khali on his debut.
There were times when he was silent too long but he got better when he was alongside King. Not many announcers will be asked to call a live show solo so it's probably not fair to judge him on this.
I don't know why they didn't just send King out there with him right away or even not have JBL and Booker T take the rest of the night off. Two former world champions can't talk because they got a table thrown on them (though Booker's reaction gave me a laugh).
Depending on which way you look at it, they were either testing Saxton in a brutal way or simply setting him up to fail.

I thought he did pretty well, the show had a unique and funny feel to it for me with the played straight tragedy of the dead announce team. Thumbs up.

That was absolutely dreadful for awhile. He didn't know when to emote or even speak clearly half the time...and so much dead air. I'm sure there's nervousness of having to carry the announcing by yourself and being off your game having to stand up and everything, but that was noticeably not good.

Saxton was put in a no win situation here.
He can't be overly happy and excited because he's meant to be selling the beatings that his fellow announcers received, and him just being somber out there on his own is never going to produce great commentary.
I like Saxton, he's great on SD - This just wasn't the night for him to be the character he normally is on that show. I thought he did just fine.

He is the best announcer WWE has. I wish he was the voice of WWE. I think he proved tonight that he isn't although even if he was that isn't exactly a very high bar right now.

all the new commentators have not been impressing me booker t is an idiot saxton is dull and renee young sounds like she came from a commercial and sounds to nice to get me pumped for wrestling she'd be good for just the divas matches and backstage interviews but i dont want her commentating a hell in a cell or ladder match.

It made me miss the usual Cole/JBL/Lawler mess. RIGHT??!! It was dreadful....I thought to myself "Corey Graves isn't in the back too?" hell Renee was there, she's not the best, but better than boring ass Byron. You give someone a chance to carry a show solo and you give it to him?? Oh well, still better than Riley. I'd rather be bored than want to stab my earballs. "It's Rusev" confused me. I was like, did he spoil the spot? Oh no...he's just not very good at this. His tone and the way he worded it all was weird. Like a golf commentator calling wrestling.

To be fair, that's the worst possible scenario for a RAW debut. Did he even have a monitor or an earpiece?
