I just do not understand the aggressive vitriol people have towards him lately. Everyone can say what they want (and I'm sure some people have always disliked him, don't get me wrong) but I DO remember when people here didn't leap to attack everything he did and said, didn't treat him like a pariah. I mean, people can say things you don't agree with and not be the worst person to walk the face of the earth. There's a vast difference between a criticism and some of the things I've read about him recently. It makes it so I don't even want to go in to topics about the guy. In small doses he's charming, but with social media and his podcast the curtain is being pulled back on Jericho as a person and people don't care for what they see, things like the public whining about Punk not wanting to talk to him when he'd spill every detail of his departure he could extract on his podcast if he could, the shilling and the way he acts when he realises he's said something unpopular. He doesn't apologise, he just deletes comments he made or claims to have been misquoted which rubs people the wrong way. He's not the worst person in the world by a long shot but he comes off as a douche at times, people aren't lining up to trash him, they just aren't giving him the benefit of the doubt any more because of how entertaining a performer he is and are just calling his BS what it is rather than laughing and saying 'Oh that delightful shill'. I stopped being inclined to do that myself when he tried to write off the genuine grievances developmental talents have against DeMott by saying 'If u can’t handle it then quit' and comparing it to the Hart Brothers camp he attended, then deleted it when there was a backlash from the fans and guys DeMott slapped about the head while concussed... He didn't defend, stand by or apologise, he just deleted it.

Chris Jericho is a legend in the ring, and amazing to watch wrestle. I want to love him. I want to cheer him.
It's all the crap like this that makes it so difficult to do.

This reminds me of when Kevin Garnett got in shit for calling Charlie Villanueva (who suffers from alopecia) a "cancer patient". Then he's like "no no no, see, I said that he was a cancer, like a cancer to this league." No you didn't, KG. And that's barely even better.

Jericho hasn't entertained me as an on-screen performer since "SAVE US Y2J"

He wants to have it both ways, to be edgy and controversial, calling things as he sees them without alienating anyone who'd come to a Fozzy concert or listen to his podcast. He's going to have to stick to being just edgy at a novice level. Perhaps he will put mailbox flags up when there is no mail inside to deliver.

I don't care about things like being a shill (I tune it out if I don't care) and I'm not necessarily agreeing with everything he says - I just don't feel the need to leap to some of the things I've seen said about him on here over and over again. I don't really care if other people like him or not - it's their prerogative. But he's been talked about like he can do no right from way before anything having to do with DeMott. This extends before any tweets, before any podcast. It's like there's no middle ground; he went from universally beloved to vilified. It's made it so topics on here regarding him are utterly futile.

Have some conviction for f**** sake. If you meant it, then own it. If you didn't, then apoligize. Don't develop some persecution complex when people call you out and act like you didn't say what you said.

Like it or not people are going to talk about Jericho saying stupid things in threads about him saying stupid things, and the stupid things he says are going to colour people's opinions of him going forward. People aren't dumping all over him in threads that discuss his ring work, the moments of his career that made them huge fans of the guy, they're just saying they're not a huge fan of him in the present day and he's kind of to blame for that. He's getting into the same sort of boat as guys like Hogan and Flair, where people love the ringwork that made them a fan but dislike the guy who played the character in the present day.

I'm not going to go around in circles, because it all comes down to how you view things and choose to react to them. I don't need you to "explain" anything to me, or tell me how things are "going to be", because it's not a matter of understanding, it's a matter of not seeing things the same way. With that, I'm bowing out of any discussions about him because it's pointless. Rock on.

You don't like it and it's fine but no-one is telling you 'how it's going to be', just how things are from the perspective of people who don't like Jericho in the present day. You may not like the reasoning, but it's pretty solid. Rock on indeed.

We'll just agree to disagree, okay? Thank you and lets move on. I'm sure we can both agree he was amazing in every respect in WCW. No matter what I think of him now, he'll always be the man of 1004 holds to me, will always have four more holds than Malenko and will always be one of the best parts of WCW Monday Night Jerichos from all those years ago.

I like Jericho and I find his willingness to go against the grain to be refreshing. Enjoy listening to his podcast on the way to work.

Honestly, don't really hold this in its own right that much against Jericho, but even before the Punk and DeMott stuff the guy always came off as an asshole to me. Probably why I've never gotten around to reading his first book despite owning it for years.
Granted, I might have more patience for all that if not for the fact I haven't enjoyed Jericho in any sort of consistent way since, like, 2005.

Not nearly as obnoxious as what you're doing right now.
