Or maybe people prefer streaming a series as opposed to buying it.
There's more to it than just piracy.

Well i've got the first 10 seasons on DVD so I don't care anymore.
But it sucks for the people that want to know what it was like working with Tim & Eric and Lady Gaga.

I guess I'll always have them parroting my mistake on the Old Man and Lisa commentary....

I still put in the DVDs everynight as I go to sleep all 18 of them I have. Now, I gotta wait around until, maybe, one day, unf***ing likely, the Simpsons App comes to Canada.

That's too bad. I stopped collecting them years ago (stopped on season 9 or so, not because of quality since I like 9 and 10 and even enjoy some stuff in 11-17), but I wouldn't mind listening to some of those commentaries. I really enjoyed the commentaries for seasons 1 through whenever I stopped. Sure, not every commentary was a homerun but they were just fun.

The futile saga of getting John Swartzwelder to do a commentary is always great to listen to.

As a person who has legally purchased Simpsons DVDs*, thanks for not giving a poop about me following the rules, FOX.
* yeah, I only own seasons 1-10 too. And now, nothing more.

Add me to the 1-10 crowd.
To be honest, besides the quality of the show going down, the commentaries themselves were getting worse around season 10. They had the funny stories, hell, when I watch the DVDs I only listen to the commentary and have the main show on subtitles, but they were getting a bit more whiny and defensive of the show.
They started saying things like "If you think the show's so bad and you could do better, prove it" about a show that doesn't take script submissions. I can only imagine how they'd be in the seasons the backlash really gained momentum.

Honestly most of the writing team from season 11 onwards are funnier on commentary than their actual episodes are, because they're funny guys but the characters are stale. I'd sooner watch a new commentary on a recent episode than the episodes themselves, so yeah I'm kinda bummed about this too. I better get season 2 on DVD before it becomes a collector's item or some shit. And probably rebuy everything else since mine are scratched to f***.

I still can never quite decide where I stand on the physical versus streaming debate. On one hand I agree wholeheartedly it's good to actually BUY a physical copy of something versus effectively paying to borrow a digital copy which could hypothetically be withdrawn at any time, but at the same time, DVDs and CDs take up a buttload of room and though an impressive collection always looks, well, impressive, that's still a lot of space.

Not much of a loss (at least compared to the prior decision from Fox to stop releasing most (all?) tv on Blu-ray), as recent Fox TV DVDs have some sort of weird ghosting problem. I saw this on the Dragons Defenders of Berk set, and have read that it also present on recent releases like Modern Family. screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/96942/picture:3

I've never streamed, but that's the reason I don't care for the idea. I'm over buying dvds. I have sold a lot of mine and got screwed in the process, because stores don't really want them, but God, the space I have saved. It's sad really, but tv, music, movies, that kind of stuff from whence people used to be able to make a living, well, now due to privacy, the public almost feels entitled to it all.
