I was expecting him back by now. I probably missed something. What happened?

His movie career is doing better than WWE thought it would.
I'm really not interested in seeing him back though.

Guardians of the Galaxy went huge, and he was praised (rightly so) for his role. This has likely led to much more options movie wise--the new Bond film for example.
I wouldn't come back if I were him, not for a long time anyway.

His comeback was a disaster and he's doing well in Hollywood. Why would he come back?

Batista really got shafted when it came to his return, so I wouldn't be surprised if part of the reason is just him not wanting to come back.

One they realised were they went wrong his comeback was great. Was it? He bombed as a face and spent the rest of his time looking bored and out of place. What was so great about any of it? He was face up until he won the Rumble, then he became hilarious as douchetista and put on some great matches (at WM and against The Shield).

He's got a ton of projects in Hollywood. Good ones.
He has a role in the upcoming film Spectre, the follow-up to Skyfall.
He is set to reprise his role of Drax in a sequel to Guardians of the Galaxy. He is rumored to be appearing in the third Avengers movie as well.
He is reportedly going to star in a remake of the movie Kickboxer.
It didn't become absolutely apparent that his film career was taking off this well until RIGHT AFTER his run in WWE with Evolution. Guardians was released right after Batista's return run and the success of this movie led in to him getting more movie roles.

Please god no. He's almost 50 years old and gets blown up 30 seconds into a match.

He's got no reason to want to come back. His movie career has taken off since the success of Guardians of the Galaxy.

even as the host of RAW or maybe a big PPV, i'd love to see the big guy back onscreen, he would completely light up the arena

- A guest host - Guest GM for the night - One off random appearance - A Wrestlemania promoting something - Retirement match with someone

With the success Batista is having in Hollywood, I would f***ing love it so hard if he came back as a mix of Hollywood Rock and Douchetista. It would make the greatest wrestling heel of all time!
