Why do they bother with these? I mean they don't even bring in talent from the past and do any of you even watch these?

The only One Night Only that was ever useful was the WWF's One Night Only in 1997. The fact that a current pro wrestling company that claims to be #2 worldwide is producing shows with no importance or link to current storylines AND charging $15-20 for them is ridiculous.

They are there because of the ppv contracts.

I wouldn't call it completely useless. Even if they're only drawing 300-400 people, TNA needs to run all the shows they can. I do think the "no importance or link to current storylines" thing is a problem. If they have the resources to book One Night Only cards, those resources would be better used if those bookings were instead made as Impact tapings.

The ONOs are taped at the Impact Zone where admission is free, and the buys are so bad TNA won't even release them.
And the shows more often than not are bad and lackluster as everyone's basically going through the motions.

If you're only doing them because you have a PPV contract to fulfil, why not make them actually feel important?
Build up at least one match to feel big on the show. You have four weeks of a two hour TV show to build a feud for a month to have a blow off on PPV - it's not hard to make two people hate each other once a month.

Because TNA really has no interest in something they feel won't make them their money back. To them, PPVs are a dying breed, but the contracts with PPV companies necessitate them so TNA tries to do shows that while not really mattering to the overall show so you don't have to worry about people not watching, but will make a unique experience. And the fact that they charge cheaply for the shows (trust me, in TV ppvs, 15-20 bucks for an event show is freaking cheap) so as to not make people feel ripped off. Oh and going through the motions, go watch the Hardcore Justice show they just did because if you thing using a rubber chicken a number of times because the crowd wanted to see it as well as using Gummy Bears as a weapon is "going through the motions", well then I don't know what world you are living in. While that doesn't entertain me and at times annoys me with the show, it is not even close to "going through the motions".

I don't get why these are still happening. Sure, the twit running stuff says they're good, but they're an active drain on what little resources TNA still has, plus if DirecTV throwing them over twice in favor of softcore porn is any indication, even the PPV providers really don't care to air them.

You have four weeks of a two hour TV show to build a feud for a month to have a blow off on PPV - it's not hard to make two people hate each other once a month. Because of the bigger problem with the One Night Only PPVs- they film all of the PPVs so far in advance it becomes impossible to even build a matches up for the PPV without giving out huge spoilers for television up to a year away, leaving you with these disjointed, one-off PPVs. (However, just playing devil's advocates for the ONOs, that actually does have its own benefit as well- by doing One Night Only PPVs so far in advance, it also makes it so TNA can give each Pay Per View a special gimmick for the ONO shows of match types that'd struggle to get their own Impact, let alone a full PPV to its name.)

I really want to know if anybody buys the DVDs of those events. I know TNA has them listed.

Any good matches came out of these PPVs? It's not exactly a five star classic, but Eric Young and EC3 vs. Kazarian and Curry Man from one of the Lethal Lottery style shows might be my favorite comedy match of all time.

I would equally say that Bully Ray and Spud vs. Aries and Anderson from a ONO show is one of my favourite comedy matches of all time. That's one thing I can say about these shows: the workers obviously don't care so they can just have fun with them and you can see it in matches like the two we've mentioned. They're a lot of fun.

Yeah I was gonna say the Spud/Bully vs Aries/Anderson match myself. I've watched it a couple times, it's still funny.

there's three MASSIVE problems with them ..... and i mean MASSIVE .....
1: they are shown out of step with the rest of the programming 2: the crowds are ALWAYS DEAD at them 3: they're far too long ..... make the two hours long, compressing the matches and giving them excitement and giving the crowd something not to fall asleep too!

Considering some of the crap I have seen advertised as being on PPV since the WWE network started (Boxing on a trampoline anyone?) I have no issue with One Night Only.

TNA One Night Only: In Your House(Because We Owe the PPV Providers Content...even though no one watches these things) They could film it in my house, and I still probably wouldn't watch it.
