An obvious answer but Walk on the Wild Side is one of the best.

I love hearing and playing the bass line in NIB by Black Sabbath. If I had to pick a favorite, that would easily be it. Devil's Dance by Metallica would be a close second.
I would also give an honorable mention to Taxman by The Beatles.

I would also give an honorable mention to Taxman by The Beatles. NIB is great, so I'll echo this. The Final Voyage of Liquid Sky by Primus. Also, I'm not sure if it would count since it's not technically on a traditional bass, but Claypool's song Whamola from the Frog Brigade album and newer South Park intro.

That groovy bass line in Aerosmith's Sweet Emotion make that song really special. Came in here to say this, one of the first things I play on bass when I pick one up. Other ones I like: Joy Division - She's Lost Control Green Day - Long View blink-182 - Carousel Fleetwood Mac - The Chain ('Oh shit the F1 is on!')

"Tax Man," by the Beatles. Edit: Do'h didn't see that post. "Holy War," by Thin Lizzy Paul McCartney is such a renowned songwriter that he's ended up underrated as a bassist. How about the one on 'Rain,' too? That's a great one.

Paul McCartney was an amazing bassist. The early stuff was more basic but still fun and he chucked in a lot of fun little fills. The later stuff was amazing and sometimes a tricky bastard to learn to play. His timing was incredible.
Anyway my contribution from another very underrated bassist, Adam Yauch and his trademark fuzz:

Down in the Tube Station at Midnight by The Jam is mind blowingly good.
A Public Image by PiL is phenomenal, Jah Wobble should have been in the Pistols.
Watching the Detectives has a nice groove.

Can't forget Bootsy Collins! I'm torn between his work with the JB's and his solo stuff as my favorite work of his.

Rancid - Maxwell's Murder, Matt Freeman is the greatest bassest ever to live ever and this song is 1.26 of him proving it! youtu.be/uE1zgrMdxBEalso, technically it is a bass line, but the Seinfeld theme song is one of the reasons i picked up the bass and started playing, only later did i find out its actually done on a synth, also i'd pick queen - Invisible man, John Deacon was a mad man, he would play a 6 string bass for recording, then add additional parts on a Synth so one else could play it live. try to play the bass line to Invisble Man by queen, you need 9 fingers on one hand!

Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik by Outkast. The it's 4 chords and the bass just rides underneath it perfectly. Live instrumentation with hip-hop pretty much guarantees great bass lines, or they pick a good one to sample. Totally came in this thread to say this. Also, a lot of the songs with Thunderkat on To Pimp A Butterfly and Thuggin by Freddie Gibbs and Madlib make me want to get a fur coat and cane and just stroll down the streets.

I'll add another somewhat simlilar concept to Southernplaylistic, but imo even better; Skandalouz by 2Pac. That whole thing is awesome, genius hip-hop composition by Mr. Daz Dillinger, but the bass line is especially sick.
