It's funny sometimes I forget that Angle has actually been with TNA longer than he was with WWE. What were your thoughts when he first appeared in TNA. I thought this was the turning point for them considering Angle was still big when he left WWE. Sure they had the "death watch" on him but from a overall standpoint it seemed like they got that name they needed to become more "legitimate" and not have it be Jeff Jarret happy hour every week.

Felt sure he'd be dead by week 2.
Instead, they just had him kill Samoa Joe's career.

"Kurt Angle went to TNA. ...The f*** is TNA?"
His debut was actually how I found out about TNA.

I was a bit of a TNA mark at the time, so something along the lines of "BKLSDBJLGDFJLGBDJLFGBDLGDFGDFG WE'RE LEGIT NOW WOOOOEJIPJRIGHDG"

I was incredibly excited about all the dream matches and that he, along with Sting and Christian, would be the final key ingredient for substantial brand growth, and having his star power rub off on Joe and Styles in particular to make them among the biggest stars in the industry. I never expected TNA to compete with WWE though.

"What a get, but I thought his body was ruined", if I recall, so, sort of right on both counts.

"maybe this is what'll get them to turn the corner".
never thought that about any new acquisition again.

"What a get, but I thought his body was ruined", if I recall, so, sort of right on both counts. Pretty much my thoughts from what I remember. Something like I thought Kurt was released so he could convalesce... but damn that's a hell of a signing for TNA and of course looking forward for a long build to Joe vs. Angle...

Which of course they had to blow their wad on immediately, even though him coming in alone meant that PPV was going to sell.

Honestly at the time I really wasn't surprised by it at all, but did kind of have that thought of, "Huh, that's neat."
And I bought the shows with the first two Joe matches. First due to figuring it'd be a classic, second because, "Well, first one was good at least, maybe the second will iron the kinks out."

"maybe this is what'll get them to turn the corner". never thought that about any new acquisition again. My thoughts exactly. My thinking was wow I remember when I could only catch TNA if I got home early from school and it was only half an hour. Now they got Kurt they've come a long way.

I was really excited because I used to be a big Angle fan and TNA fan. Then LOLTNA and the DWI's started.

12 year old Evenbro felt something funny in his pants. They then ruined it by having him make Joe his personal bitch.

I was shocked and excited for hell that Angle was coming to TNA as everyone else. Keep in mind nothing was reported of Angle joining TNA when they said there was going to be a special announcement during the No Surrender PPV like the Internet f***ing blew up that night. I honestly thought Angle would be the piece that could turn the company around and I still believe that could of been the case if Genesis 2006 the most bought PPV at the time of 60,000 people wasn't a f***ing embarrassment of a PPV with a anti climatic Joe vs. Angle match

A weird mixture of "That's huge for them" and "Uh-oh..."
That whole period around '06-'07, to me, felt like the biggest time when TNA seemed to be really heading upwards. Things leveled off the next couple years, but then Hogan and Bischoff came along for another big profile push. Before the decline began.

I thought it was huge for them. I thought it was the next piece of puzzle towards TNA closing the gap on WWE. How stupid I now feel.

I genuinely thought he had retired due to how f***ed up his neck was.
It made sense, though, his matches were becoming abysmal and he was in the midcard of WWE's third tier show, which is about the level TNA were at back then.

Pretty mixed, to be honest. It was obviously a huge signing for TNA, but it wasn't all that surprising because hey-where else was he going to go? And I did have a few concerns since, by all account, Vince actually released him because he was refusing to go into rehab, and this was a time when he was obviously on the juice.
