I was listening to some of John Barry's work from the later Bond films (the Timothy Dalton years) when I realized that, up until his death, he was probably the longest constant in the James Bond franchise. At which point I realized that, to me, Barry and Dame Shirley Bassey probably defined James Bond more than any one person who actually played the super spy on film.
So, FAN, I pose the question to you: if you could pick three people, who would you say defines the James Bond/007 franchise?

The first three names I thought of were THE three actors in my opinion. Connery, Moore and Brosnan.

John Barry, you hum a few bars from the theme and everybody but everybody knows what you're singing.

Idris Elba Brosnan is the closest to how I usually see Bond's personality. He's a happy medium between Roger Moore's dapper campy style and Daniel Craig's angst.

Is the reason there is no option for Timothy Dalton because he only portrayed Bond in two films?

I think Brosnan has marketing on his side. Quite a few Bond video games used his likeness and while you could argue he only had one good movie during his run as the character, they always received a lot of buzz.
Plus he just looks like how I picture the character.

For school this year I've been watching the James Bond films, not all of them but a good amount of them to be able to answer this.
My answer being Sean Connery given that when I first read the thread I initially thought of him. The second most recognisable to the Bond character would be Daniel Craig.

Sean Connery is the fisrt to come to mind, even though its a toss-up between Brosnan and Daniel Craig for my favorite portrayal of Bond. I think Craig comes ahead, especially after having read a few of the books. He nails it.

Is the reason there is no option for Timothy Dalton because he only portrayed Bond in two films? That's what the "other" option is for. Honestly, Timothy Dalton would be my third choice, just because I think he comes closer to the Bond of the original novels. At the same time, while he's definitely my favorite James Bond, I wouldn't call him the "definitive" James Bond because I imagine most folks don't even remember him in the role.
