Yeah, Yrden and Specter oil is the way to go.

I decided to pick this up for me and my friend. If it's half as good as people say it is then I'm looking forward to it.

So, I'm doing the Family Matters quest right now and I'm having a problem - when I try to escort the Baron back to the castle with the baby-creature I can't seem to make it past the wraiths that attack and always die in the second wave. Any tips? Lay the Yrden sign like a mofo and get good at the parry move and dodging after a few hits (don't get greedy), it shouldn't be too hard if you have the Specter Oil. If one gets behind you, that's your ass. Do you have the Viper sword? Do that quest if not.

Appreciate all the advice, I'll give it a whirl when I start back up. I took a break tonight, but I think I need to go and just do side quests for a bit after this. I've only done a couple of them so far and stuck to the main story, perhaps to my detriment it seems.

Played a few more hours tonight, I know I'm still barely started on the game as I just started the search for Ciri, but I'm loving the game thus far. What I really like about the Witcher games is the pacing... everything seems to be well-thought out, doesn't rush you into things, but still.. keeps it going so it doesn't get boring and tedious. I'm even enjoying the crafting portion of the game, which is difficult for me to get into on any game other than Monster Hunter. Still gotta see if I run into any of these terrible glitches I keep hearing people run across... but personally, I'm hoping I go glitch-free. After the whole GTA heist debacle, I feel video games owe me a win.

I'm very slowly getting won over.. Geralt is such a lovable smartass, and I keep going to see what he'll say next.
My favorite so far, "Shackles here? Right in the open with everyone watching?"

In games like this or Mass Effect or any game where you have dialogue trees, I can never bring myself to pick the douchebag answers. I always try to be the nice guy. Like in this game, I let the guy have the money for his daughter's dowry and I let the one dude have the medicine after chasing him down.
Anyone else like this?

I try to balance honor and badassery. If the quest-giver gives me attitude, I'll take him for all he's worth. If the quest was a pain in the ass, I'll take my reward. If it seems like there'd be a broad benefit to letting them off with just having done them a good deed, I do that. But I won't just fight for the side of good because good is good. Witchers don't do anything for free, and you don't survive in the world by always being the good guy... plus, the douchebag answers can just be hilarious at times.
My last playthrough of Mass Effect I went full dickbag with Shepard... it was awesome.

It's also always worth reading the quest journal for the finished quests. Brutal sometimes. Also patch notes for pc 1.04 patch. -Rebinding of all keys is now available after switching on the ‘Unlock Bindings’ option in the Options\Key Bindings submenu. -Corrects an issue in the dialogue system that might have caused dialogue looping in certain scenes. -Fixes an issue with incorrect behavior of Wild Hunt warriors after they were affected by the Axii Sign. -Corrects a bug that caused spontaneous combustion of gas clouds. -1280 x 720 resolution is now properly displayed as a valid resolution option. -Fixes boat stuttering in cutscenes. -Texture rendering quality for the high and ultra presets has been improved. -Further improvements made in NVIDIA Hairworks performance. -A few additional gwent cards are now available in the Prologue area. -Fixes an issue where users with usernames incorporating non-Latin characters were unable to import saves from The Witcher 2. -Includes a series of overall stability and performance improvements. -Fixes issues related to alt + tabbing and minimizing the game window. -Updates the game icon. -Enlarges the loot pop-up window in the UI. -Fixes an issue where, in certain circumstances, the comparison window could extend beyond the game borders in the UI. -Upgrading items included in gear sets no longer destroys rune sockets on said items. -Introduces small tweaks in the UI for gwent. -Corrects some missing translations in localized versions. See, EA/Bioware - THAT'S how you respond to feedback. 6 months to rebind the mouse buttons in DA:I my arse.

One of the NPCs has 'Shady Individual' above his head. I wish we had this in real life.

See this is why I can't get into Next Gen gaming Why release the game broken ? In this case I fully believe they thought the worst of it was ironed out. They delayed the game 2-3 times already, and I am not sure any large Dev team is as awesome to their fans as CD Projekt Red. A game this damn big and complicated just has too many things that can break, and you can test for years and never catch them all, or you fix one and it breaks something else.

Because I haven't played any of this series.

It is actually kind of cool to come with with already developed characters and world events. It is less world building and more relationship growth.

Can someone help? For some reason, my potions and bombs have stopped replenishing. It keeps saying I need alcohol, but I have plenty of alcohol in my inventory. So, I assumed it just meant Dwarven alcohol, which is what I used to make the potions in the first place, but I haven't been able to find any in ages. The bombs I just don't get, because I didn't need alcohol to craft them in the first place.
I'm just really confused.

I hate that it is automatically used. Most times I don't want the game to do so.

Alright, took a couple days off of playing but used the advice here and now I've gotten over my hurdle. The hard part of the game is deciding on which quests to work and when. Found the Baron's daughter and continued to find his wife, then got sidetracked looking for Ciri with Kiera. Also started a side quest that involves a werewolf and that's giving me some issues so I figured I'd put it on hold for a bit to do other things. I normally leave alchemy to the bare minimum in games like this but I can see I'm going to have to give it a real go this time.
Anyway, all the advice is much appreciated.
