I'm glad in this country now that it is nationwide either way. I always hated that the allowing or not allowing of gay marriage was by state. To paraphrase what Abe Lincoln said about slavery, this is a situation where it should be one way or the other nationwide.
But other than that.......don't care.

Important day. The case 'Obergefell v. Hodges' will be go down with Brown vs. Board of Education and will be a major case that our students will learn about in school. Honestly, I bet the overwhelming majority of people hearing the news today wouldn't recognize the name of the case, but overtime that will change. But that's for later. Today, it's a great day for millions of Americans who will be treated more equally.

Didn't think I'd be saying this at any point, but good job current administration.
Long overdue.

Excellent news. I'm very happy for everybody who can now join together in a union no matter where they live in this country. Hopefully this also means that in time people will stop resenting the concept as much and embrace it. Sadly, I think that there will still be plenty of people out there to oppose this decision.
But for now let's consider this a major victory and hope that one day everyone will come to accept it.

It's bittersweet for me, because I have legal protections for being gay but I have literally NONE for being transgender.
We gotta work on that still.

By the way, what does that mean for adoption by gay couples? I remember in France, that was one of the main issues about legalizing gay marriage as it automatically legalized adoption by gay couples or something like that (before th legalization, there was something called the PACS which gay couples did have access to and granted many but not all of the same rights as marriage, one of the major differences being that it doesn't allow adoption. I think).

I'm pretty happy about this. First, it's a big win for equal rights. If two consenting adults want to marry they damn well should be able to, same-sex or not. Second, as gay marriage becomes institutionalized and the drama dies down it will be one less political argument I have to hear over and over.

A lot of adoption agencies won't adopt to legally single parents, even if they were in a committed relationship with someone else.

It's bittersweet for me, because I have legal protections for being gay but I have literally NONE for being transgender. We gotta work on that still. 150 years ago it was legal to have slaves. 60 years ago blacks had to go to different schools than whites. 50 years ago in some places interracial marriage was illegal. 20 years ago the military could ask someone if they're gay. 4 years ago homosexuals and bisexuals were given the right to openly serve in the military. Today same sex marriage was made legal across the United States. A month ago Caitlyn Jenner appeared on the cover of Vanity Fair, to majority praise, acceptance, and love. It will happen for you, it will.

The only bad thing about this is this means way less Gay Couples are going to visit Canada now Well, if Twitter tells you anything, you're about to get an influx of people who disagree with the decision. And don't know that Canada's had marriage equality for a decade now.

I thought it became Nationwide in 2003, not in 2005 since there seemed to be a bigger deal about in 2003 than 2005. Still a month away from the official 10th year.

I'm all for this (and have been since we legalized it here in Massachusetts in '03). It'll be sad to see the phrase "confirmed bachelor" fade out of the popular lexicon. Sure, that's not a valid reason to keep the gays from marrying. But damn was that a clever euphemism!
