Watching some old ECW PPVs from 2000 and I never saw why they pushed him so hard as their top heel. Would've went with Rhino as the top heel, but they pulled the trigger on him too late.

Simple: WWF or WCW wouldn't poach him away from Heyman.

He did a great job. Credible was a heat magnet, and between the jorts and the Grinspoon entrance, has the one heel gimmick that's entirely nostalgia proof. I think he gets an unwarranted bad rap because his time as ECW champ happened right as Paul stopped booking the company in mid-2000, and the declining quality occurred while he was on top.

The fans hated Credible. The fans hated Rhino, too, but they could get behind him destroying people. I don't think that there was any danger of the fans having a 'begrudging respect' for Credible.

Simple: WWF or WCW wouldn't poach him away from Heyman. Wouldn't surprise me if this factored into the decision to push him. WWE obviously wasn't interested, poor guy fell all the way down to Sunday Night Heat jobber.

Simple: WWF or WCW wouldn't poach him away from Heyman. Exactly, he was the Larry Zybysko, of ECW. Safe, reliable, and helped kill the promotion in the process.

People talk about Heyman being an amazing booker, but people were not booing Justin Credible because of his ability to be a great character. They hated him because he was terrible.
No 5'9 guy should use a tombstone.

No 5'9 guy should use a tombstone. Going to totally disagree. Having went to ECW shows back then Credible was over and it wasn't a "you suck" type of heat. He was over as a heel.

Justin is a weird case for me. I actually liked him when he was Aldo Montoya but couldn't stand him as Justin Credible. Then, after meeting him, I am a huge fan of the guy (one of the nicest wrestlers ever and I have met a lot) and I actually liked his team with X Pac.
What sucked about his ECW time was that you knew they were going to push him and there would be a backlash quickly. They even had him lose to Mikey Whipwreck a bunch of times when he debuted to "cool him off" at first.

He came in and fans were very "You've given us so much Paul E....we'll go with you on this for a bit."
He was awesome with Lance Storm. The Impact Players were better than Rated RKO could ever be.
Then Lance left and Justin became World champion. Anyhoo....

Justin Credible is a legit ECW legend as far as I'm concerned.
I started watching ECW in 99, so I'm probably a touch biased, but I always bought him as champion. He had a great look, a better tombstone than Undertaker, a vicious streak, and the Impact Players were f***ing fantastic too.
Honestly, those one-time champs at the end like him, Jerry Lynn and Corino, I really liked those guys as champions.

He was the Jannetty of the Impact Players. But, hey, Jannetty was really good, so that's kind of a compliment.

I liked him as champion. I think he gets to much shit to be fair. Not to mention Francine was awesome with him. Francine was great with everybody she was paired with to be fair.

Didn't Credible used to take advantage of Rhino destroying people?
You're creating 2 heels at the price of 1. Put the strap on Rhino instead of Credible and you have 1 less heel to rile the crowd up.

Simple: WWF or WCW wouldn't poach him away from Heyman. I'm pretty sure Heyman himself has said this as after what happened with Mike Awesome he needed to put the belt on someone who neither the big two wanted.

I guess that makes sense as I couldn't see him being in either promotion in a major role. I just never bought into him as an (pardon the pun) impact player, no matter how hard they were trying to push him at the time.

The main reason he became ECW champ is because WWE and WCW had poached away all of ECW's top talents of the time and were eyeing up others, so ECW had to work with what they had. And he did far better with it than he gets credit for, but he had the bad luck of being on top during the promotion's waning days.

He's probably my least favorite original ECW champion with the exception Dreamer.
I just could never buy the guy as the top guy. He was an okay wrestler and that was about it. He had one of the most uninteresting and generic looks you could ever find. He looked like just about every backyard wrestler from around that time. And I hated that f***ing name.
That said, I liked him alright when he was in X Factor. That was the right fit for him, stick him with another sleezy looking dude. I also liked him with Storm although I hardly remember that much from memory. He just stood out the wrong way as a singles' guy. PJ Polaco is a far better wrestling name too. I also think he's a very knowledgeable wrestling mind.

I liked him and thought he was a great heel for that era of ECW.
That said, that era of ECW is by far the weakest of its existence. 2000/01 ECW is nowhere near as rewatchable as 94/99 ECW is (1999 was IMO ECW's last truly good year), and Raven and Shane Douglas were both far better IMO, but Justin was effective for the time period. I always wanted to see a babyface run for Mike Awesome and have him powerbomb Credible through ten thousand tables, but sadly was never to be.
