Olbermann is also a real hockey fan. He's the only person who bothers to talk about hockey on ESPN except for when they bring Barry Melrose back from wherever they keep him to talk about his mancrush Jonathan Toews. I can almost forgive him for being a filthy Rangers fan. You forget Tim Collishaw on Around The Horn....he loves talking about hockey.

I was 'forced" to listen to Cowherd for roughly 20 minutes a day last spring (was driving that time of day, and it's the only sports station I can pick up on my radio and I simply don't care for the music stations) and it was 19 and a half minutes too much. It's not so much the Type A personality, it's the "I only have time in my life for champions," which, again, doesn't bother me but when said champ loses and someone else pops up, he pretends he never liked the champ in the first place and that he is a lifelong fan of the new champ. He's never wrong, regardless of facts, until he's so wrong he has to own up to it - except he just changes his opinion with no acknowledgment he was wrong. I'm an Alabama football fan and he alternates between Alabama and Auburn will dominate for years to come, depending on who won the previous game. I'm sure several other fan bases can say similar. Cowherd took it too far when he came out on the air right after Sean Taylor died and said that it was probably his own fault. Then when news came out That it was just some dumb kids who botched a robbery, and Cowherd refused to apologize because of Taylor's history. I get a lot of the rhetoric when it comes to "selling sports". But talking shit on a guy that died that morning, you kinda deserve your ass beat for that one.

Loved his Liberal shows. I don't care enough about things outside of MMA/NFL to watch him now.

I do not always agree with KO, but he is entertaining an always stands up for his beliefs.
Not to get too political, but I am disgusted that Hope Solo is representing the US, and he has been the only one to say something about it.
On the bright side, there is competition if he gets fired/let go this time around, as NBCSN and Fox Sports 1 need daytime content. FS1 has been surprisingly open to letting hosts speak up about things, even things on their own network (Katie Nolan).

When he was on TV a few years back on some afternoon show (can't remember much about it, other than a female co-host) and he was tolerable, probably because he has a muzzle. His radio show is insufferable. Yeah, that's when he was the original co-host of SportsNation with Michelle Beadle. That's literally the only time I found Cowherd decent as well.

Basically re: the Solo thing, they're too afraid of pissing off radical feminists. Regular feminists (such as myself) side with Olbermann but radfems dogpile him for saying the truth and they'd do the same to anyone else who says it and they don't want to deal with that.

I kind of doubt that, if only because the type of reaction you're describing likely comes from a very, very small sliver of the population; more likely, there are business reasons pertaining to the leagues and organizations ESPN wants to be affiliated with. I'm sure there are people out there who would blindly support Hope Solo no matter what, though, and that's just sad.

I doubt it has anything to do with radfems since they're pretty insignificant even within feminist circles (and anyone who thinks Hope Solo was justified in drunkenly beating her nephew and sister is just an outright scumbag), much less corporate juggernauts like ESPN. Plus OTL was the one who broke the whole thing about Solo anyway. If anything, Olbermann was towing the company line so if they're pissed off with him about that, it would be incredibly hypocritical. He didn't say anything that wasn't already said on OTL just with a little more outrage.
The shrugging shoulders about Hope Solo is because domestic violence is still pretty low on everyone's radar. I don't doubt we wouldn't have had the widespread outcry about Ray Rice without the video that showed him knocking out his future wife. The NFL would've stayed firm on its 2 game suspension in spite of the criticism and that would be that. Solo's domestic violence case is treated even less significantly because she's a woman who initiated it. It's the type of sexism that hurts both genders: women are inherently thought of as weaker than men so the conclusion many come up with is that Solo couldn't do any real damage to anyone because of her sex. And/or that her nephew was a sissy boy for letting his drunk aunt beat him up like that since he's big and athletic himself, even though he was technically a minor at the time.

They're about to lose Cowherd, too.
He wants upwards of $8M a year, which he won't get, and seems to be set on moving to political talk radio. He also apparently doesn't like the east coast and wants to head back west.
If I were ESPN, I'd put Colin, Stephen A. and Skip on a rocket to the sun.
f*** those guys.

besides the Sportscenter anchors, can ESPN just feature Tony Reali and Woody Paige on all other programing?

I'd rather have Plaschke than TJ Symers who was the LA representative before Plaschke/Adande took that slot. It would suck to lose Olby who seems to enjoy sports more than he does politics. I could see CBS Sports picking him up and teaming him up with Rome as the Hardest Hour Of Talk in Sports Television.
