So does his show like end effective immediately or will it still be going until the 31st? Cause if it is the latter, we may be in for some very entertaining shit these next couple of weeks.

Oh this is gonna be good. They're going to get rid of him anyways, so KO might as well go into "f*** it" mode at this point.

f*** the NFL and ESPN. Now that leaves Highly Questionable as the only show they have fun on. You just had to know that Olbermann talking up the big things and not overreacting to the minutia wasn't going to jive with ESPN eventually. And of course his downfall was the most incompetent NFL commissioner of my lifetime. One great thing ruined by two god-awful things. I hate ESPN already, but I did need an extra reason to not watch the NFL this year. Damn. NCAA it is. Which is a total cesspool. That's how bad the NFL is when I have to choose to the NCAA over it.

ESPN in afternoon: "Hey Keith, please stop using commentary on issues that matter in sports. We can't annoy those folks in power."
ESPN in morning: "Hey Skip and Stephen, go nuts! #EMBRACEDEBATE"
f***ing double standards of double standards. Torch em KO.

The difference between KO and the colostomy bag of sports discussion they call "First Take" is that KO's targets are usually those in power. Particularly the commissioners and executives in leagues who hold ESPN by the nuts when it comes to TV rights and what games they'll allow to be broadcasted. Notice they don't seem to care if people call out Gary Bettman. The NHL doesn't have a business relationship with ESPN and probably never will again.
I've always got the sense that Olbermann has a massive ego, but a brilliant mind...which could be the reason for the massive ego. It's no surprise when he eventually falls out of favor with his bosses. I bet he can be just dreadful to try to keep contained. Unlike his old counterpart Dan Patrick who, while certainly a charismatic guy, offers literally the blandest, most vanilla of opinions theoretically possible which in turn keeps him from ever being an issue for his bosses.
"First Take" is more known for its phony pontificating personalities who deliberately craft such a lousy, reactionary response that they become part of the story rather than merely a spectator. It is the ground zero of the whole 'hot take' culture. And it's extremely likely that not one bit of what those gasbags say they actually believe.
Same goes with Cowherd. The fact that he's allegedly getting into political talk makes perfect sense to me. They use the exact same playbook when it pertains to programming.

With all the options we have, ESPN is becoming less and less necessary for the sports fan... I myself dropped them years ago and don't miss it a bit. Stories like this just remind me why.

Hell when the best thing about the channel besides actual sporting events can be watched outside of the network(I'm talking about the 30 for 30 series which can be seen on Netflix, albeit a bit after their initial airings), there's not much incentive to really watch them.

I only ever watch ESPN when there's a game I want to see that's not on any other network. That's it.
Their TV anchors are insufferable trolls who have nothing intelligent to say and spew verbal diarrhea in weak attempts to get ratings.
I can't say that I agree with even half of what Keith Olbermann has said over the course of his media career, but he's one of the few people in sports media whose work is intelligent and funny. I hope some other network gives him a comparable position.

With all the options we have, ESPN is becoming less and less necessary for the sports fan... I myself dropped them years ago and don't miss it a bit. Stories like this just remind me why. It is, but it's the automatic default to the vast, vast majority of sports fans still, despite their poor quality. Like, I don't know FS1's coverage shows ratings, but I'd venture to guess that they aren't anywhere near ESPN's. And in terms of NBCSN, it pretty much runs unopposed all day. There's a lot of people that like a lot of sports (myself included) with an all-encompassing network being favored as opposed to niche networks like MLBN or NFLN. There's an opportunity, but I don't think NBC or Fox are really capitalizing on it. I really wish Yahoo would get in there, as their sports reporting has uncovered a lot of major stories, and they are pretty palatable online. What it comes down to is Keith was the only one of "our" guys. Actual SPORT FANS who want good analysis. Not storyline fans, not 'only superstar' fans, not major overreaction fans, not mindless talk radio banter fans. And now he's going to be gone. And it sucks.

I wonder where Keith would go now. I doubt NBCSN or FS1 are going to be interested, unless there was a lot of changeover between when he left MSNBC and now. And I seriously doubt Keith would consider FS1 or vice versa considering how much of a punching bag he used to make out of their news channel and big bossman when he was a political pundit.
KO does have this unfortunate tendency to burn bridges on the way out. Sometimes he's justified (ESPN) and sometimes he isn't (CurrentTV, probably MSNBC), but his inability to tolerate bullshit is both a strength and a flaw for him.
Maybe he can join up with Bill Simmons with whatever he's doing.
