Yeah, this album is just too good to pick just one song from. EASILY Carcass' best work.

Portal - Ion (2018)In the years since Portals last album (2013's Vexovoid) I've discovered and fallen in love with the side band of the bass player Omenous Fugue and drummer Ignis Fatuus "Impetuous Ritual". Fallen in love to a point where I consider them superior to Portal. But Portal are still what brought me to the dance so I'm always up for another album from them, because it's not like their music isn't f***ing incredible as well. This album takes a while to get going but really picks up from the fourth song Phreqs onwards. For the most part it's what you'd expect from Portal but there are moments that really grab you, such as the drums at the end of Phreqs or the outro to Olde Guarde (which is just brilliant). They're a lot clearer and less muddy than Impetuous Ritual so it's easier to hear what's going on. But I did find the guitars on this album sounded way too compressed and like the guitar players were scraping their strings as they played too much. I prefer the muddier sound of Impetuous Ritual so the guitar sound took my enjoyment of the album down a few notches. The songs are typical for Portal. To a new ear it'll all sound the same and just like noise. But if you're up for some dank death metal or are already a fan of Portal you can't go wrong with this one. And they get an extra point for the artwork; which is f***ing insane. 8/10

the Black Dahlia Murder - Ritual (2011)I held off on the Black Dahlia Murder's 2011 'Ritual' for quite a few years. I really didn't like their previous album (2009's 'Deflorate) so when this one came out less than two years later I really wasn't interested in listening to them. By the time 2013's 'Everblack' came out and I got around to listening to that one this one had just sort of slipped through the cracks. And that's the thing with a Black Dahlia Murder album; you can skip one and you're really not missing anything. That's not to say that this or any of their other albums are bad (except Deflorate, I just don't like that one) they're just all the same. I was surprised though that I did enjoy my time listening to this album. So I'd put it on the upper echelon of Black Dahlia Murder albums but not quite as high as Nocturnal or Everblack. If there's any problem with this album it's that it's too long for them. I prefer their albums at around thirty-five minutes and this one runs over forty-five. Granted their are twelve songs on it though )which is two or three more than they usually have) but towards the end I was kinda just waiting for it to end. The songs were all fine but I'd sorta just had enough. It's a Black Dahlia Murder album. If you liked them before you'll like them the same after listening to this. If you didn't like them before this will change nothing. 7.5/10

Underside - Satan in your Stereo (2018)When you get an album for free with a magazine it's usually not a band idea to expect the worst. Even moreso when the album has a title like "Satan in your Stereo" and a cover like that. So I went into this album expecting to make it to the second or third song and to be honest it was better than I expected. It's nothing I'd pay money for but for a free album in a cardboard sleeve it's the best free album in a cardboard sleeve I've heard in a while. That said, if it wasn't still sitting on my computer desk where I placed it after ripping it to my computer two weeks ago I'd have forgotten I have it. 3.5/10
