Antichrist Siege Machine - Schism Perpetration (2019)I've been listening to a lot of bestial death metal and war metal the last year and surprisingly it still excites me. But this album excites me more than most and more than almost everything I've heard this year. It's just pure, brutal, pounding chaos. That's thanks in part to the incredible drum sound that is just PUNISHING. There are a few breakdowns where I dare say it's the best drum sound I've heard in my life. On top of that is some great guitarwork and vocals. It's hard to find anything wrong with this album. It moves at a very quick pace, the feedback and samples are always in the perfect spots...I guess my only problem is the last song ends on a fadeout and I'm not a big fan of fadeouts. It should have ended with moar feedback. And I bought it on a complete whim because it was cheap on eBay. This is a likely contender for album of the year. 10/10 (the riff at around 2:05 of this song is what sold me)

I ain’t never listened to Judas Priest before but I got a few albums the last week. It’s not fair to other bands how good the Painkiller album is.

Been very pleasantly surprised by the new Lacuna Coil album after I’d largely written them off, bar a handful of songs, from Shallow Life onward. There’s some distinct Meshuggah influence in the riffs which makes them stick out more than just generic chugs, Andrea sticks to pretty decent death growls rather than his “eh” cleans, and Cristina is great as always. Maybe I just went into it with super low expectations but it’s the first time since high school I’ve listened to an album of theirs multiple times.

I'm a sucker for Old Gods of Asgard (POTF).

Really good show.

The new Blut Aus Nord is fantastic. It is a different sound for them, as it was advertised. If you’re a fan of the band it sounds like the Memoria Vetusta albums but with the vocals way further back in the mix and relegated to just being choral. They’re basically taking the place of keyboards although the album has those too.
It’s a very soothing album. Yet it still falls under black metal.
