That's a pretty horrifying x-ray, I have to say. Tyson is lucky to be here, if his tweet is anything near statistically accurate. And I like Samoa Joe, but if he has inadvertently caused the early retirement of Tyson Kidd, just as Tyson was finally starting to build real momentum and popularity in the WWE then... well that's really a sad thing to have happened. Why on earth did they think it was a good idea to have him go up against Joe, when Tyson isn't even on NXT any more? Dammit. Oh, and also, I do not like that move, and I don't care how closely it's associated with Joe. It's got to go. It was a dark match before RAW/Superstars, not an NXT match. And they wanted Tyson to wrestle Joe because he's a solid hand who could keep up with Joe in the ring.

Sometimes freak accidents happen. Without really good footage of it to study, there's no way of knowing exactly what went wrong, but bear in mind that this year somebody died in the ring due to a kick. Not some crazy top rope piledriver horseshit, just a kick. Accidents can happen in the simplest of moves and it's not inherently careless to let him continue using the movie if they've looked at what happened and deemed it to be a huge anomaly. I get fans of Kidd and especially Bret in that one interview he did getting really heated about it, but one accident shouldn't necessarily lead to the immediate banning of a move outright without considering what actually happened.

Hopefully, Tyson Kidd doesn't come back to wrestling. I think that would be just too much for his neck this day and age. What? He's 34. If he can make a recovery, I imagine he'll be back, but it's gonna be a while.

They've been kind of quiet about his status. This sounds terrible, but, can he walk? Is he functioning normally or are there other problems he's experiencing? Praying for the guy.

If he can make a recovery, I imagine he'll be back, but it's gonna be a while. Yeah, but the recovery is the problem. Tyson has had a issue of neck problems to begin with and now his neck is being held together by a rod and two screws. I don't want anyone to die in the ring and if Tyson returns, he had a 5% chance surviving as is and I don't want that reduced when he takes a bump on the neck.

Didn't Edge have the same type of surgery and went on an insane awesome run as a heel? Granted he retired early but the neck surgery didn't stop him.

Don't quote me on this (even though I'm technically quoting you), but I feel like it's the levels that are being fused that will play a role here. This is the first time that any WWE worker is having problems with these discs - it's an unprecedented recovery, I'd imagine.

There has been some bad injuries in WWE lately. The in ring product is at an all time high, so I hate to say this, but maybe they should chill.

I'm sure he can recover from it and "feel" fine, but that's a whole lot different from "being" fine when you start taking bumps again.

I'm still thinking he was playing with those percentage numbers.
Again, if it was that bad, one would think that it would have been immediate emergency surgery.

It'll make one hell of a Total Divas episode though where Nattie tries to cheer Tyson up with a dominatrix themed hospital party with cats. "Look, honey, I appreciate the sentiment, and particularly the effort, but can I just watch my New Japan DVDs instead?" I AM TRYING TO WATCH NEW JAPAN, I AM NOT PURRING LIKE A CAT!

For those of you interested in anatomy, the saying goes, "C3, C4, C5 keeps the diaphragm alive." He was one segment away from life support.

IS Tyson okay? I mean, he was on Jericho's podcast and he's been tweeting. Is he doing that from a hospital bed? A wheelchair? On crutches?
If he's up and mobile, he's got to be the luckiest survivor of such an injury in history.

Additional notes, courtesy of WrestleZone. Looks like the key difference between Kidd's injury and those of Austin & Edge is that Kidd's was higher up the neck.

So next time your sports coach asks you to hold those neck bridges and you're not feeling up to it, remember Tyson Kidd. They may have saved his life, and could save yours someday.
