I just signed up and all I needed was a username, e-mail, birthdate, which I could all make bogus. No credit card but maybe that's required for guys.
"Welcome applesauce32,

To help you find your secret lover we have now made AshleyMadison.com 100% FREE FOR WOMEN. "

To put into perspective here, these hackers aren't just getting info that John cheated on Jane, they are also getting credit card details, addresses, how much money is being paid, email addresses, passwords. Basically, a whole load of shit which nobody should have access too.
This is a website for scumbags, and I am not defending said scumbags from being cheating scumbags. But I will freely defend their right to not have all their payment information leaked somewhere, or in the hands of people illegally, because that really has sweet f*** all to do with their in no way illegal adultery.
Two wrongs don't make a right, and hackers are rarely, rarely ever our heroes in situations like this.

I'm not condoning cheating, but I do love the absurdity of the ad they run on the Stern Show all the time -
Man - I used your IPad and found your Ashley Madison profile.
Woman - I still love you, "I just don't want to be celibate anymore."
Man - I understand. You know...I think I'll be okay with it, I just don't want to know.
Woman - Great because we have so many good reasons to stay together: Our house, kids, money, etc.
Because a conversation like that, with immediate acceptance, would happen ALL the time.

That's a legit ad?
I feel like if I found an Ashley Madison profile on my wife's iPad, the last thing I would say would be "I understand".

Yeah, outside of my excellent Dolly Madison joke earlier (c'mon that shit was great), I've gotta say that I can't agree with it being cool these people having their info hacked. Yeah, it's scuzzy as hell to cheat and whatnot, but ultimately that's between the people in the relationship.

Jerry Springer once tried to pay for a hooker with a check, so people signing up with their real info isn't out of the question.

I think it's a shame that they have their trust and faith in this institution betrayed.

The hackers are jackasses. Cheating sucks when it's not justified, but there are extenuating circumstances such as people battered by their spouses and want comfort from someone. Not to mention, the family members of clients could have their information stolen as well.

Put me in with those who can't sign off on this. In my view there are two sides to every story and some people have valid reasons to cheat on someone, and even if not, airing thousands or millions of people's dirty laundry just plain isn't right.

Was being married a prerequisite? "We've been sneaking around all this time, only for me to find out you don't have a wife? You bastard!" Ashley Madison sure took a huge dump. Whenever I hear about "the dark web" I always visualize deep space, or this:

For some reason, this reminds me of something a guy I know told me about cheating. He explained that it's rational for guys to do it because:
"If a man sees Katy Perry walk in, and she wants to f***, his woman's gotta let him, because he's not getting that chance often and she can't fault him for being a man."
Heh, who knows, for all I know his data got leaked here.
