He's above Flair in my opinion. Flair, like Dusty Rhodes would only be known by real wrestling fans, whereas anybody with a partial knowledge of wresting will know Undertaker. Hell I knew who Undertaker was before I even knew anything else about wrestling. While in the US Flair and Dusty might have been globally the NWA and WCW just did not get the exposure of the WWF so someone popular in the Hulkamania or Attitude eras will more well known that a top NWA guy in my book.
It most likely goes
1) The Rock 2) Hulk Hogan 3) Stone Cold 4) The Undertaker 5) Randy Savage/Bret Hart (even know whenever I mention Bret Hart to someone they instantly go "Isn't he the one that died?")

4th after Hogan, Rock and Austin.
9/10 people know who The Undertaker is.

I mentioned it before, but how are people not mentioning Cena? He has had a run at the top for 10+ years, when there is one company around. Anyone 20 years old or under that watched even a handful of matches is very familiar with him. Parents all know him. He has been in bad movies, and had a cameo (with another on the way) in big comedies. He is a frequent guest on broadcast nightly talk shows. He was plastered all over non-wrestling fans' facebooks for his 50th Make A Wish. Girls who watch E!'s great programming routinely know him. He has 7+ million followers on twitter, which is within 60% of the top 100 in the world (counting businesses, apps, sports teams)

I honestly don't think he'd be that high as he was never the face of the company, never the one doing the talkshow loop as his gimmick never really allowed for it, and when it did wrestling was becoming passe. He'll be known by lapsed fans, sure, but by the general public he's a non entity.

These threads never make sense. As fans we cannot assume what non fans think. It always turns into "my mom doesn't know him" or "My dad still talks about him". as if our parents are the authority on the subject.

Taker is one of the most famous here by name recognition here in the UK. When the WWF had its biggest peak over here (1991-93) he was one of the most recognisable wrestlers. A lot of people know him from that period and when I tell people I watch wrestling I frequently get asked if Taker is still wrestling. I was going to post pretty much this. In most of the conversations I have with lapsed and non-fans about Wrestling, almost everytime I'm asked about Hogan, Rock, Stone Cold or 'Taker. On personal experience I'd say he even cracks the top 5.

Behind Hogan, Rock, Austin, Savage, Piper, Andre & Cena. Probably on the same level of being famous as Flair where their mainly only famous to people who are familiar with wrestling. While the others have mainstream fame.

He's above Flair in my opinion. Flair, like Dusty Rhodes would only be known by real wrestling fans, whereas anybody with a partial knowledge of wresting will know Undertaker. I see this sentiment pretty often about Flair, but Flair is as well-known as Taker in the States. Maybe it varies elsewhere, because WWE has a larger international reach.

I can't put Taker above Andre. Andre is probably the greatest attraction in wrestling history.

Taker is easily a top 10 guy. He's the most well known WWE gimmick wrestler of all time, if you're looking to put him at the top of a list.

Non fans normally seem to recognize him rather well.

He'd rank high, I'd say, probably on par with Warrior or Triple H, but behind Rock or Hogan, in large part since he has had less cross media presence.

I would say (but I am by no means an authority)
1. Hulk Hogan 2. Steve Austin 3. The Rock 4. Macho Man 5. John Cena 6. Andre The Giant 7. Undertaker 8. Ric Flair 9. Ultimate Warrior 10. Triple H 11. Dusty Rhodes 12. Mick Foley 13. Big Show 14. Roddy Piper 15. Sting 16. CM Punk 17. Jerry Lawler 18. Daniel Bryan 19. The Bella Twins 20. Chyna
It seems weird because we don't think of them as big crossover stars, but the last five are pretty well known by most people, even if it's just because of controversy or Total Divas.
Oh, and some wrestler guy named Brock was in UFC during the peak of its popularity.

Bob Barker did the Undertaker sit up thing in Happy Gilmore... 20 years ago. People know who Taker is. Right outside the top 5, 6 or 7 at the lowest.

Along with Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels - high on the list if you're a fan, totally unknown if you're not.

No way is Undertaker more famous than Ric Flair, Roddy Piper or Andre the Giant. Ultimate Warrior is debatable.

You know I wonder if we're underestimating Jerry Lawler in this discussion. I think certainly if you are aware of Andy Kaufman you are aware of Jerry Lawler.

But Andre is close.
