I have a Remington 870 police model that I gave to my dad. I bought it for home defense but I never even bought ammo for it. However, my dad lives out in a rural area and his neighbor got into a fight with his grandson and grandson's gf. The old man shot and killed his grandson but the gf managed to run across the street to my dads house for help. The old man followed her with his revolver and was presumably going to shoot her and all my dad had was a baseball bat. Dad told me the old man came up to the door and was beating on it until must have cleared up his head and went back home. The old man was arrested thankfully. That's when I gave my gun to my dad. I didn't really buy into the whole home defense thing until that happened. Had the old man gotten into my dad's house, the girl that came over, my dad, my little sister, her boyfriend, and my 2 month old nephew might have been killed. The odds say that it will never happen but I'd rather be prepared. I'll be getting my permit to carry pretty soon, just to have all my bases covered for a handgun in my home. www.wsmv.com/story/25459797/fatal-shooting-reported-in-wilson-county

Second I'm glad everything worked out for your family and happy you're taking steps to legally arm yourself. It's sad but, sometimes it takes things like these to make people realize the danger that could happen. PM me if you have any questions.

The day Casey Jones has to resort to using guns to fight crime instead of sports gear is the day I lose faith in humanity. Some people don't know what a crumpet is, and when you call them out on it, they get violent. I know. Damn punkers. Especially bald ones who wear green make up and wear masks over ugly faces.

I haven't got my permit yet, took the class but I haven't filed the paperwork. Will be doing so shortly. I want to carry because I've had people try to carjack me(turned one into a speed bump), and heard someone try my doorknob at 1 am. Having a loaded .45 in the house made that not so alarming. I might carry my Sig P220, but that's a full size .45, and it's rather chunky. If I don't like carrying that, I'll probably buy a Glock 30s. My Taurus model 66 is unfortunately out of the question...

If you're looking for a small .45 you can't go wrong with an Springfield Armory XDS .45. I bought a used one for next to nothing after trading in two 9mm's I didn't use anymore. I've only been able to shoot a few rounds from it but, it doesn't have much kick for a .45 that size. Hopefully I'll get some more time at the range to break it in before I start to carry it.

I used to be a crime reporter, so I understand anyone who feel safer having a means to defend yourself that isn't so easy for someone on drugs to ignore. But, I used to be a crime reporter, so I understand thsose who believe that the general public should not have easy eaccess to firearms.

My buddy's XD .40 was pretty nice, I really liked the sights on it.

Carrying a gun for "self-defense" is f***ing retarded. If you really need to defend yourself that badly, get pepper spray or a civilian model tazer or whatever, the only reason you would ever need a gun if you are prepared and fully committed to killing someone. In some places, you can't even do that, so you're completely dependent on the cops to help you in times when people try to attack you or break into your property. Experience has taught me that the police will only show up to help you once its too late. Even if you call them as a problem begins to unfold, it'll take them at least a few minutes to get to you; you won't have time to wait that long (criminals generally aren't going to idle for the cops to arrive on the scene), and you have to first assume that the cops will take your call seriously to respond in the first place.

I am way more terrified of accidentally killing someone than getting myself killed, so I am not considering ever getting a gun. Besides, I've never felt like I've been close enough to danger to need one.

Besides, I've never felt like I've been close enough to danger to need one. There are 4 simple rules to gun safety if you follow those you're good to go. If you don't then, yeah bad shit generally happens.

I'm almost 34 and consider myself fortunate to have never even seen a gun in person in my own country (seen a couple in the States, though). True, I live in a country where basically everything but a hunting shotgun are illegal and you have more chance of getting struck by lightning during an earthquake after winning the lottery than being in a position to get shot, but that's neither here nor there.

Noone does in the UK (AFAIK handguns are utterly banned unless you're the police, and carrying a gun is also basically a no no)
I carry a knuckle spikes keychain though

No gun for me. I don't trust myself with one. Too afraid I might accidentally hurt or kill someone with it.
So I'll stick with my melee weapons, namely my knives.

I don't carry guns or knives on me because I am a naive little baby boy that still somehow believes in the general goodness of humanity.

I live in Oakland, one of the 10 most dangerous cities in NA and don't carry a gun nor do I feel compelled to.

but, I also have mental issues. I don't trust myself. I also hate guns. so no, none for me.

I have two knives in my car and sometimes carry another one, guns make me nervous. (I was obsessed with this movie when it came out. Joker really appealed to my unstable mind at the time )
