That is what I was saying, this doesn't really change things for the Pats (actually I think it makes them more a victim of an incompetent league head) and makes the NFL look horrible. It made no sense for this to be a designed drop for the League when it paints them to be either a league run by morons or one run by the most egotistical blind jack off in American sports history. The Pats/Spygate stuff is basically click bait to get people to see how the NFL is really run. The more I think about it, I think the NFL is now even more likely to drop their appeal in a couple of weeks. Look for the story to drop quietly (or at least attempt to be quiet) on a Friday late afternoon. Rodger was ok Mike and Mike after they released the story this morning and he wouldn't even touch it, though he was also only asked once or twice about it. When it came to DeflateGate, he said it was now more about the CBA and than anything to do with the actual situation. I was amazed at how blind he was to it all. Never was much of a hater toward him but this was damningly stupid of him.

I really think that's the point of this whole story. I mean there really isn't any new stuff other than literal stomping on tapes that came out in reference to the Pats. This is more of a fricassee Goodell story for me. Granted some will see it as a story going after the Pats and raise the Cheatriots flag, but after reading the whole thing, that just doesn't seem true. I do agree, if someone was rewording his official statement without his knowledge or consent, to me, that's a huge issue that someone needs to be looking at. (talking about Martz I mean) To elaborate, yeah everyone knows the Pats cheated back then and it sure as hell was more than just taping from the wrong spot. Those that say their wins back then were tainted are absolutely justified in saying that. No tinfoil hat thinking here, but I actually feel that what they did influenced games and they should have been punished alot harsher then they were. Would they have won those SB's....I have no idea, maybe/maybe not, I'm not Nostradamus . I'm talking about raising that flag again for something that's a decade old. Just think, attitude is present even before the most recent article outlining admissions from former Patriots coaches and staffers that they would send low level employees (like the equipment guys that Brady threw under the bus) to sneak into opposing lockerrooms during warmups in the hope of stealing play sheets/playbooks left in the lockerroom. The article also mentions searching hotel rooms after their opponents check out hoping that someone carelessly left their playbook behind. To make it funnier, opponents got so accustomed to the Patriots doing it that some teams left fake ones behind to screw with them. It also highlighted the notion that signal scrambling in Foxboro was so frequent that the NFL got desensitized to the complaints over it (which was why opponents were still using hand signals that were being stolen in Spygate instead of using the headsets in the helmets). Couple all of this with the recent story about Peyton Manning insisting that any sensitive conversations happen in the hallway rather than the lockerroom because he was told that the Patriots bugged the guest lockerroom, Spygate, and their willingness to let their equipment guys take the fall for Deflategate, I would say that the Patriots cannot expect anyone to not look at anything involving them with a skeptical eye. Their highly indignant response to such skepticism also insults those people. It's not as though the Patriots have earned any level of trust regarding rulebreaking during the Bellichick era, so to act like people are violating that trust by questioning their motives is ridiculous. Having said that, even without the cheating Bellichick is a great coach. I just don't trust him not to try to cheat. Brady is just one of many amazing players the team has had over the years, so it's not like cheating to win was necessary. To me, however, the cheating is actually the lesser bothersome thing. Their responses to getting caught is akin to the response of entitled and spoiled rich kids getting in trouble for plagiarizing their homework at their private charter school. No one likes those little pr***s when they get offended over getting accused of things they get caught doing. Same for the Patriots. While I don't disagree with some of your points in terms of their history of skirting the rules, (except for the Petyon thing...I think he just made that public as a zinger after that whole email thing with Brady as a tongue in cheek reminder to people to keep some things in the bottle so to speak) I'm looking at is in terms of this was something that happened almost a decade ago and they paid their price for that already. Whether you agree with how the whole thing was handled and the penalties handed out for sure could be up for debate. This latest report though really doesn't bring anything new to light except the owners meeting and tapes getting stomped. That being said when it comes to the attitude of the fans and team in regards to getting caught, honestly would you expect the fans to act any different. I mean yeah, some sections of the fanbase can get annoying and borderline trollish (not on here guys talking in general) but it does both ways. If we are expecting fans to be contrite and apologetic cause their team got busted, we'll all be waiting a long time. Winning teams breed bandwaggoners....bandwaggoners are loud and obnoxious in general. Example, I'm a Broncos fan. They got busted for salary cap violations for 3 years, 2 of which they won the Super Bowl in the late 90s. Now did they break the rules...yup. Did they get penalized for it....yes. Is it over and done for me discussing it....hell no. What the actual violation was, was that Elway and T. Davis let Bowlen keep their salaries those years to help fund the new stadium so as to keep the initial construction loan down a bit. Their salaries still counted against the cap so there was no competitive advantage. They were repaid without interest a couple years later. Yet what I just described, some still only see salary cap violation, and that's the reason they won. So I do have some empathy for what Pats fans are going through.

The important thing to note though is for all of the hearsay and paranoia from opposing teams, and all of the precautions that some take, a large number of their suspicions have not only never been proven, but there's never even been any evidence of some of these things.
The ESPN article today had a whole lot of stuff along the lines of "I have no proof, but I think that they ____" or "They sometimes did ____ before. It's not illegal, but it's bad form". There's really nothing you can look at that article and say OH MY GOD,THIS IS NEW.. THEY'RE BUSTED!!!". The attention has been on the Patriots so far, but as mentioned by a few of us, the League SHOULD be taking a shit-ton of heat for the stuff in that story. Because if even some of it is true, the league and specifially, Goodell is dicked.

I would embrace in this making Goddell and the Pats looking like morons if it wasn't for the timing of this. Just in time for people to forget that the Browns OL coach just got in trouble for beating a woman up. That, as well as the fact that Tebow has been released from the Eagles, and that Goodell got embarrassed in court for the fifth time, despite his efforts to stack everything in his favor... Well, ESPN just dropped a bomb accusing the Pats and league office of working together to hide and destroy everything Spygate related to avoid a government investigation. That pissed off the rest of the owners which caused Goodell to notify all teams that if any team were caught cheating again, they would be punished harshly, something directed at NE. That is what led to everything Deflategate. Speaking of the government investigation that never took place, it's Arlen Specter again, because of 1: He's a diehard Eagles fan, and felt that his Eagles got cheated out of a Super Bowl win by the Pats, and 2: He had ties with Comcast.

Even then, the 24-hour media blitz of ESPN and their "Embrace Debate" policy- particularly the fact they just lost four weeks of round-the-clock story for Tom Brady's suspension- means it's far more likely ESPN leaked the story just so they have something to talk about for the next few weeks. Heck, I wouldn't be surprised if, assuming the NFL said this story was false and the federal government said they weren't going to look into Spygate- ESPN would just turn around and report "The Patriots only beat the Rams in the Super Bowl because the United States government forced the NFL to fix every New England game from Week 3 on in the 2001 season so that the team called the Patriots would win the Super Bowl after 9/11!"

I'm going to talk because it seems my team (Carolina Panthers) have jumped on the bandwagon of saying New England cheated and has claimed they cheated to win Super Bowl 38. Now, I watched that game as I'm sure all of you did, I didn't see New England cheating. What I saw was New England take advantage of a huge mistake made by kicker John Kasey that allowed New England to be at the 40 yard line (which is basically just giving away the damn game, especially since they had Adam Vinatieri as kicker). If John Kasey doesn't screw up that kick and get a penalty that puts NE on the 40 yard line, I don't think these people would be complaining because we probably would have won that game.
In fact, Carolina still shouldn't be complaining as several of us fans know that FOUR Panthers players on that team were taking PEDs that they had "prescriptions" to. So yeah, those Panthers complaining need to shut up about that loss.
Bottom line was at Super Bowl 38, New England beat Carolina and no excuses or complaints is going to freaking change that.

Also, and this must be reinforced, although many Patriots fans refuse to listen, but 99.89% of all Indianapolis Colts fans will argue that the Patriots beat the Colts handily at the AFC Championship game, and it doesn't matter what type of ball they used; they still would've creamed us by 35 points or more.

However, in that case, the chicken came before the egg, because it's all the people who HATE the Patriots who keep saying that more than anyone on the Patriots or Colts, even to the point where it's just as bad: The Patriots did cream the Colts in the AFC Title game. That goes without saying. However, IF you want to make a case that "DeflateGate gave the Patriots the Super Bowl by cheating", then you could probably make a fair argument that, because of how close the game was and how it ended in a huge comeback by New England- if we assume DeflateGate's cheating led the Patriots to win games that they should have lost, then they likely would have lost their Divisional Playoff game to Baltimore if not for DeflateGate. That argument would thus put Baltimore in the AFC Title game (where the beating the Patriots gave the Colts makes it likely they make the Super Bowl), puts them in a close or equal game with the Seahawks... ...OH YEAH, and puts the equally sickening endgame of "The Baltimore Ravens win the Super Bowl and Roger Goodell gets to grin like a madman as he hands the Vince Lombardi trophy to the Ravens the same year Goodell botched the Ray Rice investigation, likely due to his closeness with the Ravens' ownership."

I will say this, though. The Panthers fans have more to complain about. Yes, they still should have won that game. Yes, they choked. Yes, that play was a backbreaker. Still, it was still a close one. If the Patriots cheated during that game, then maybe that was a difference maker. Maybe, without the cheating, that game would not have been so close. Maybe the Panthers would have been able to move the ball during both halves and it would have been New England as the team that was attempting desperation plays at the end. Us Colts fans? Our team was trounced. You can dislike the cheating in general without thinking it actually factored into whether your team lost or not (hell, in the ESPN article the earliest game mentioned regard Patriots cheating, a regular season game against the Bucs, they still lost that game despite alleged cheating).

Yeah, as a Colts fan that Ravens game is the only place that I feel we got cheated because of Deflategate. That Ravens game was close and cheating might have been the difference in that game. If it was, that meant that their cheating possibly denied the Colts the chance to host the AFC championship game against the Ravens, a team they already beat once last season. Granted, even if they had hosted the AFC championship and beaten the Ravens again, it's not like the Seahawks did not have a lot of the same strengths that the Patriots used against the Colts (great coverage and a strong run game). Sure, the Colts did beat the Seahawks the season before but that was both in Indy and was way too close for comfort. I suspect that they would have lost to the Seahawks, perhaps even badly, had they gotten to the Super Bowl. I don't know which possibility sucks worse; getting blown out like they did in the AFC championship or making it to the big game only to get blown out there (perhaps longtime Broncos fans can help me answer that one).

See, this is the biggest bulls**t of it all, that now every single game for the Patriots for the last 15 years has been put into question, evidence be damned.
There is zero evidence that the Patriots did anything impermissible prior to or during Super Bowls XXXVI, XXXVIII, or XXXIX. What you have is rampant speculation and hearsay from jilted coaches from organizations that were defeated with absolutely zero evidence to back it up. But apparently that's all it takes now, is rampant speculation. All it takes is someone to say they were a little paranoid and all of a sudden it's written it stone and accepted as fact. I check under my bed every night for the Boogeyman, but just because I'm concerned it's there doesn't mean it's a fact that it is.
This latest crap today is the height of Patriot Paranoia. ESPN drudges up crap from eight years ago that we all knew and now everyone gets to discredit every accomplishment the Patriots have achieved in the last 15 years all over again. Sports Illustrated went one better, not even bringing up Spygate but rather wildly hurling things against the wall and knowing it'll stick because people will accept it as fact. "Oh, the visiting teams at Gillette Stadium complain about their Gatorade being room temperature? MUSTA BEEN A CONSPIRACY!" Like, for real, do you know how stupid this all sounds? I could honestly say, "The weather at Gillette Stadium often fluctuates wildly in December and January. A source told me Bill Belichick has a weather machine that controls Mother Nature to his very whims." And about 75 percent of people would take it as a statement of fact because it's the Patriots.
And it's so transparent, too. That's the worst part. The NFL gets soundly trounced in court last week and the Patriots, for the first time since Tom Brady took that final knee in Glendale this past February, had a win. It didn't even take the league a week to throw cold water all over it. That's no coincidence. The league is petty and furious and looked for the easiest win they could get to damage the Patriots. "But what about SPYGATE you guys?" That's all it takes to discredit everything, again, evidence be damned, is to say SPYGATE. All of a sudden you've got Patriots' fans blood boiling and conspiracy theorists furrowing their brows and pondering, "Hmm, maybe the Panthers deserved to win the Super Bowl in 2004 if it weren't for CHEATING."
Imagine if prior to Game 4 of the 2005 World Series, ESPN writes this big, 11,000-word expose that basically amounts to, "Hey, remember the Black Sox scandal? That happened! Enjoy your World Series win!" Or imagine if the Cardinals win the 2015 World Series and two days before Opening Day 2016, the Worldwide Leader just posts "That FBI investigation happened, though." Like, for real, go f*** yourselves with this, ESPN and NFL.
At the end of the day, everything that happened today did nothing but piss of Patriots fans and give ammunition to those who hate the Patriots. Everyone who thought the Patriots cheated and none of their accomplishments are genuine thought that before today and still thinks that now. Everyone who is a Patriots fans and thinks that regardless of whatever scandal happened, it was still the players on the field who needed to get the job done and win those four championships still thinks that. All that was done today was piss off a bunch of people and make them further dig their heels in on both sides.

"BILL BELICHICK WAS THE THIRD MAN ALONGSIDE VINCE MCMAHON AND KEVIN DUNN IN WANTING TO BURY DANIEL BRYAN, YOU GUYS" If anything, I've said this before, and I'll say it again: Brady is Ric Flair, Belichick is J.J. Dillon, and Goodell is Eric Bischoff (or Jim Crockett). As for the WWE equivalents: Brady is Stone Cold, and Goodell is Mr. McMahon.

All of a sudden you've got Patriots' fans blood boiling and conspiracy theorists furrowing their brows and pondering, "Hmm, maybe the Panthers deserved to win the Super Bowl in 2004 if it weren't for CHEATING." Imagine if prior to Game 4 of the 2005 World Series, ESPN writes this big, 11,000-word expose that basically amounts to, "Hey, remember the Black Sox scandal? This was not a hit job by the NFL. That would make no sense. I don't think the ESPN article really did a hold lot to change the narrative about the Patriots other than to compile all of the accusations of the past in one place. What it did do was make the NFL and Goodell look much, much, much worse. Think about it. Amongst the accusations of how the NFL and Goodell handled things in the worst and most corrupt way are the following: - In 2006 so many complaints were filed regarding the Patriots recording signals that the NFL sent notices to all of the teams but then did not investigate the accusations. - After the warnings were issued, the Green Bay Packers caught the Patriots red-handed recording their signals and kicked the cameraman out. Several other teams accused the Patriots of recording their signals that season as well. Goodell's response was simply to send out another notice about the rules and still did not investigate the situation. - After specifically warning the Patriots not to record their signals in their next game, they caught them red-handed and seized the evidence and sent a copy of it to the NFL to actually force them to do something about it since they refused to investigate in the past. - Goodell's initial response was to send the Patriots a letter telling them to preserve any evidence they were cheating because they will investigate it in the future. Of course, if I were wanting to investigate someone for cheating, the first thing I would like to do is warn them that you will be coming in the future to look at any evidence of said cheating. - Goodell's initial idea of investigating was to call Belichick for 30 minutes on the topic and take him at his word related to the scope of the violations rather than actually investigate it. They then simply announced a punishment and hoped it would die quietly in the wake of the starting season. - Things blew up when the tape in the possession of the Jets found its way into the hands of Jay Glazier, who then ran with the story and it blew up huge. When that happened, the NFL actually came to investigate the cheating and found the evidence that they should have looked for previously had it been a real investigation. The evidence was ordered destroyed, but even then the Patriots would not let the NFL officials leave with the evidence collected, claiming it their intellectual property (remember, the whole point is that the signals are the intellectual property of their opponents) and insisting that it had to be destroyed on site. Of course, they went along with their demands. - When the rumors regarding recording the Rams practice emerged, the NFL instructed then-Rams coach to release a statement to clear the NFL and say they did their due diligence. He did as told, but even that was not good enough so they edited the statement to say things he did not intend to make the NFL and Goodell look better. - An NFL official was asked to sit in the guests coaching booth in order to demonstrate how prevalent scrambling of helmet radios were at Foxboro. The official saw that the radio cut out during some critical plays, but the NFL did nothing to actually investigate the team for that. Now I ask you, is this really something that the NFL is going to leak? I would rather repeatedly punch myself in the face if I were someone with the NFL.

This is what pisses me off the most. After months of listening to nothing but talk about PSI and legal procedures I finally get ready to concentrate on just football again only for the bullshit from eight years ago to be dragged back up. But I won't let it spoil my good time. Tonight at 10pm: Tomorrow at 8: And Thursday the banner drops

Goodell's office definitely did not leak it, but I think someone from within the NFL who was upset with Goodell's reign and failure to get the Patriots their "deserved" punishment in their eyes....did do some leakjob to make both sides look terrible.
