Nitro 11/8/1999
The opening promo has Sid, Outsiders, Bret Hart and Goldberg.
There’s so much going on in it. Bret calls the Outsiders a derogatory word, and Goldbergs music starts playing as he’s still talking for what seems like an eternity.

Went back and watched a couple of old Clash of the Champions specials recently, did not realise until watching them that the incident where Sting blows his knee out going after Flair outside a cage was the same Clash that he got booted out the Horsemen for refusing to pull out of the match that would bring him his maiden World title
Also was not aware that Ron Simmons and Butch Reed went unnamed during the early days of Doom's run until they got unmasked against the Steiners, even though the masks themselves made it blatently obvious who they were

The first departure from NWA/WCW for the Rock'n Roll Express came in January 1988 just before the Bunkhouse Stampede PPV. Always thought it came just after they lost the titles to the Horsemen with the Scaffold Match against the Midnight Express at Starrcade 1987 being their last hurrah.
Kinda sad because they advertised a Sheepherders vs. Rock'n Roll Express match for that show which I would have liked to see (would have probably been the best match on that card too).

That I didn't enjoy the HHH Slaughter bootcamp match as much as I did when I first watched it seven years ago. Match is terrible.

People complain now about Cole sounding phony but good lord, was he so much worse in the 90s. Watching the Raw after IYH DX and he's awful. Everything sounds like someone else's words.

Kane comes down to beat up LOD and Hawk, the c***, no-sells a piledriver (only time I've seen Kane hit a standard piledriver), gets back to his feet after a chokeslam which be barely bumped for and then allows Kane to KO him with the Tombstone. This is 1997 wreck yo shit Kane as well!

I know it’s a few years old and I’m late to the gamrbut I was shocked that Benoit’s name was mentioned in the Monday Night Wars documentary.
I also learned that DXs parody of the Corporation was not that funny watching it years later.

NWA/WCW had a balding, bleached-blonde, mustachioed jobber named Randy Hogan.

Ah, yes, who can forget the commentary duo of Don Muraco and Jake "The Snake" Roberts?

I also learned that DXs parody of the Corporation was not that funny watching it years later. A LOT of the DX stuff has aged very poorly. I remember one promo not long after X-Pac's comeback, where, apropos of nothing, they start a Raw by teasing a "breakup of DX". The build up to it for half the show, then the guys come out, cut a promo about them all being "pricks" that are "jacking each other off", and that being that?

US crowds are an interesting bunch. The one of the Nation wasn't that funny either looking back. For those who don't remember the other parody from the 12/14/98 edition of Raw: www.youtube.com/watch?v=_kflUgwVQpo

Jason Sensation and "how do you get your pecs to go all the way around like that" are probably the only two things I got much of a chuckle out of. Like, the line about Rock needing to lay the smackdown on himself wasn't funny to me, but also pretty fair play, I'm sure the teens got their laughs out of it and all. Could do without the blackface, though.

Having only seen them from PPVs and now seeing them on 1988 NWA...I have to say that the Varsity Club is a pretty entertaining act.
This is especially helped by Mike Rotundo who you can definitely tell is having the time of his life playing this cocky, preppy jock-type of heel whereas in the months before he was just a stale, whitebread babyface. Kinda makes me question the decision in the years following to turn him into a SRS heel (Michael/V.K. Wallstreet, IRS etc.) when this type of heel seems like the type of role he was born to play.
The only thing distracting is Kevin Sullivan's get-up. In the first week of this gimmick, he had a fitting jacket, t-shirt etc. like a wrestling team coach, but then he changed to his identifiable get-up of cult-leader robe which kinda clashes.
In that same train of thought, seeing Ron Simmons on those shows makes me wonder how he would have fit in the Varsity Club. They mentioned that he was also an All-American from Florida University so he could have surely fit in there as well. Not like he was doing anything better until Doom came along.

Scott Putski wrestled on the NWA/WCW TBS show on Jun.25, 1988, winning the match and even doing a post-match interview with David Crockett afterwards.
Interesting since I thought his first appearance on a major stage was him becoming a part of the WWF Light Heavyweight Division in 1997.

I learned that there was this one fan who couldn't shut the hell up during the Dusty Rhodes/Ric Flair match at Starrcade 85. "WHOO DUSTY RHODES, WHOO WHOO DUSTYO RHODES!" every 2 seconds which got annoying fast.
