So I missed the announcement about this in April, just saw something about it on chive. I'm sorry man, Miller burned me on DKII. I waited for a yr. then issue one drops. I mark d out, I was in....waited....waited...waited....deployed.....returned and the damn second issue still hadn't dropped. Finally it came out. It was umm...cause confusing. Then we waited waited waited.....waited some more....finally issue three dropped. I re-read it s verbal times to see if I had miss d something no somehow and it just never clicked in. I am not saying DKIII is going to suck, but after the last experience compared to the original Dark Knight Returns, I'm not in on this one. I'm just not getter no one X cited about this. I'll wait and ask someone about it and determine if it is worth reading

2nd one was where it became clear Frank has lost his marbles. He'll always have his great work, but there's nothing he puts out any more that's worth a damn.

Man, the letdown for me was huge. The original was one of those series that changes the way you look at everything. It effected me, my perspective on how far is too far, ends justifying means and what an honest story can look like. What I mean by that last part is, Miller made Batman human and showed his weakness. Then he showed that obession can change us fundamentally and if you become too zealous, they can destroy you

Barely on topic but I wanna ask, I've been trying to get into Batman comics and I'm having a hell of a time trying to actually find anything good. Arkham Asylum: Serious place on serious earth was unenjoyable, Long Halloween is pretty good but the ending is really bad. I liked the Killing Joke and Death of the family however. Would anyone have any they'd recommend? I've been trying to read the most popular issues and so far two of the (apparent) best are kinda underwhelming.

If it helps, Azzarello is writing. Off a plot by Miller, but it should be reigned in enough for the liking of anyone sane who wants to read.
And really, I don't get why people would be outraged. It's its own miniseries event in his own crazy world that isn't connected to any other Batbooks. Ignore away and miss nothing. If it was being announced as Snyder & Capullo's replacement, then yeah outrage is warranted.

At the risk of whatever career I still have in the funny-book business, Frank Miller can go **** himself.

Eh, no outrage from me. I feel about it like I have all of dude's work since the first couple of issues of All Star BnR (though at least that had Jim Lee art). Namely: "Pass."

Despite me slamming Miler in this very thread, Year One may be my all time favorite Bats story. Year One and some of his work on Daredevil have been the only things I've enjoyed from Miller. I hated the first Dark Knight Returns story, despised the second one, and having a feeling I'm not going to like the third one either. I will make some predictions one what will happen though: 1. Superman is going to get the living shit kicked out of him because he's just such a government shill. He'll also be told how worthless, weak, and pathetic he is. 2. All the women save MAYBE for Kelly/Robin/Catgirl/whomever the hell she is...will all be sluts lusting heavily after Batman. 3. Batman will be all knowing, all powerful, unbeatable, the absolute greatest at everything there is ever. 4. Batman will beat and belittle any fellow super heroes in this series, all the while they will mourn out about how he's "right" and how awesome and godly cool he is. 5. There will be lots of pointless dumb ass political shenanigans going on, mostly at one particular party's expense that can't be gone into more detail because of board rules. I don't really care that someone else is writing this, if this story comes from the tiny pea brain of f***ing Frank Miller it's going to be absolutely horrible.

All-Star Batman and Robin might have been one of the worst comic books ever written. It's up there with One More Day

How the f*** does this racist, misogynistic and just all-around hateful nutjob keep getting work at major companies? You'd think after his "Holy Terror" piece of crap where he pretty much went full-nazi by advocating the torture and murder of Muslims he would be persona non grata in any self-respecting company. You can't even argue that his name sells because, well... it doesn't any more.

Sign me up. Not like it'll be good or I'll actually buy it, no chance in hell on either, but it should make for some funny reviews.

For some reason I always gobbled Miller's books up when I was in college. Even though I knew DKII and ASBAR were weak sauce I still parted with my cash. Some of it really ranges from the most brilliant kind of awkward (Crazy Steve's antics with Hal and the cops in ASBAR), to the most inappropriate ("Inspiring terror is the best part of the job" says Bats on a book released just after 9/11, following a scene that was seemingly illustrated as 9/11 was actually happening according to Frank), but I could never put those books down out of disgust, the magic of comics still had a hold on me. Not so much now, but I usually buy more DC than Marvel these days so I'll likely give it a go.

Honestly, even though I'm a lifelong Batman fan and comic book fan, I feel most Batman comics suck. If I were to make a list of my favorite comics of all time, there probably wouldn't be any Batman on it. However, when it comes to movies and TV, he'd have a huge presence on the list. As for Dark Knight 3 itself, I honestly was never a huge fan of the original despite its status as one of the greatest comics of all time, so I'm not that offended or surprised at them digging it up yet again. I do feel bad for the fans that want to read it though, because now it's not just a mini series. In typical DC fashion there are going to be a bunch of tie-ins and one-shots and stuff too.

From my understanding is that Frank Miller has very little actual involvement with this series. It's more his name attached to it. I could be completely wrong though.

No Man's Land is a really good story, but be aware it's over five trades.
I lucked out early in the year and got all 5 and the prelude Cataclysm on eBay for like ten bucks.

If it was Marvel then everyone would be using the "Stand Alone defense"

Not me personally, if Frank was coming back to have a hand in a stand alone Daredevil, I'm fairly positive that'd be shit as well.

Wasn't Dick Grayson an evil severed head in the last one? How was a book like that in need of a sequel?
