Now that a few days have passed, could someone explain the whole goat thing to me? I've never really understood that. Though, being from the Boston area, tales of our resident "curse" were far more prevalent. Thumbnail version - in 1945, a longtime Cubs fan attempted to attend a game of the World Series at Wrigley Field. With his pet billy goat. Even though he had two tickets - one for himself, one for the goat - he was barred from entry. On the spot, he put a gypsy curse on the Cubs, swearing they would never again win the World Series. Is it even remotely true? Heaven only knows, but as the years mounted, the legend took hold and, like The Man Who Shot Liberty Vallance, if you have a choice between the truth and the legend, print the legend.

I'm thinking Roberts wins NL MOY.
And if Kris Bryant wins NL MVP, his last four years look like:
2013: National Collegiate Player of the Year 2014: Minor League Player of the Year 2015: NL ROY 2016: NL MVP
That's just damn impressive.

AL MVP nominees: Jose Altuve - Astros Mike Trout - Angels Mookie Betts - Red Sox I'm stunned that David Ortiz didn't make the list of finalists. At age 40, when he knew he was retiring coming into the season, Ortiz hit .315 with 38 home runs, 127 RBI, 48 doubles, a .401 on-base percentage, .620 slugging percentage, and 1.021 OPS, leading the Red Sox from last place in 2015 to East Division champions in 2016. For my money, he's the AL MVP yet he isn't even considered one of the three best options by the voters.

Is it even remotely true? Heaven only knows, but as the years mounted, the legend took hold and, like The Man Who Shot Liberty Vallance, if you have a choice between the truth and the legend, print the legend. Actually, according to fact/legend/who knows, he made it into the park but the stink of the goat bothered other people and he was asked to leave. That was Game 4 of the '45 World Series. The Cubs lost that game, and lost the series. In the years since, people interpreted his curse to mean either they'd never win the World Series or never win the pennant - neither happened until this year. (I'd actually always heard they'd never get to the WS - which, IMO, is why them winning the pennant was the MUCH bigger deal. Winning the Series was just a beautiful icing on an already perfect cake.) Another fun factoid: the man who made the curse - William Sianis, owner of the Billy Goat Tavern in Chicago (a place which years later inspired John Belushi's Olympic Café/cheeseburger sketch on SNL) - died on October 22, 1970. October 22, 1970. .......46 years later to the day of that man's death, the Cubs won the pennant.

This is such a crock of bad decision making that whoever is in charge could probably get an overpaid MLB manager contract out of it when all is said and done. "But he didn't play the field." Well, D. Murphy did, so if we take that into consideration, Murphy is not even in the running for Top 3 2B of theYear because of how awful he is. Why would he be on an MVP list if that is measurement of deservedness. Ortiz did more for his team by sitting out from fielding than Murphy did by doing his best Knoblach impersonation.

Verlander should get the Cy. Kluber didn't have the full season Justin did, had some DL time and had a rough start.
NL is tough, but I say Lester.

Makes no sense. Really, the only thing Mike Trout has going for him is WAR. Well, defense too. And more stolen bases, more walks, a higher on base percentage, and more runs. Oh, and he did all of that on a completely shit team, without Trout, the Angels easily lose 100 games.
