If you're a Mets fan, this has got to be extremely happy news and it would also be telling that Cespedes does like being part of the Mets.

MLB has avoided a lockout as a new Collective Bargaining Agreement was signed. I also guess it's time for a new MLB thread.

Home field goes to the pennant winner with the best record? It's about f***ing time!

I wouldn't be opposed to the commercial for this year's All-Star Game going a little something like "This One Doesn't Matter. Just Have Fun."
(That's not cynicism. I haven't watched All-Star Games after the dismantling of all that it once stood for. Hoping we can get back to that. Was always the best All-Star Game in sports until they tried to hipster it.)

If the Nats trade for McCutcheon:
1. Turner 2. Murphy 3. McCutcheon 4. Harper 5. Rendon 6. Werth 7. Zimmerman 8. ? 9. Pitcher
Stacked lineup, stacked pitching. Cubbies still the favorites but this puts the Nats on #2.

Cubbies still the favorites but this puts the Nats on #2. Initially I was gonna say to flip Cutch & Murph, but McCuteheon's baserunning has gotten worse in recent years. Either way, the Nats pull this trade off & they'd be the Cubs biggest threat in the NL

With the All star game reverting back to just a mid season exhibition game that won't matter, I could see Smackdown getting some more viewers on ASG night

Of course, it just ruined the idea of the game because it R. Kelly'd all over the concept that made it the ratings giant to begin with. Smackdown benefited more from All-Star game in this poorly conceived idea era than it would have before the self-inflicted wound MLB has dealt itself.

Glad they got it done without any kind of lockout. Owners are smarter and took note how bad the sport suffered in 94. Glad that the best overall team gets home feel advantage. The All Star Game was supposed to be fun. The days when Bonds was smiling when someone robbed him of a homer went away when the game was meaning something while in thought it was a good try to boast ratings but clearly didn't work and took away from what made it fun to begin with.

Now that the ASG means nothing can they make it more fun examples may include having Mike Trout being the starting pitcher for the AL, or having Madison Bumgarner hit clean up.

The MLB All-Star Game hasn't "meant anything" since the advent of Interleague play. The whole fascination with the All-Star Game prior to that was that it was the one chance every summer in which you'd get to see the stars of the entire league. If you were a Red Sox fan, your only chance to see Barry Bonds play would be the occasional nationally-televised game on ESPN or FOX. The same went for Mets fans who wanted to see Ken Griffey Jr., Angels fans who wanted to see Tony Gwynn, Pirates fans who wanted to see Reggie Jackson ... you get my drift.
But with Interleague play, and especially since 2002 when teams weren't beholden to playing their Interleague divisional foes, now if I want to see Bryce Harper, I just check the schedule for when the Nationals are coming to town. If a Marlins fan wants to watch Mike Trout, they just wait until they visit Miami. The appeal of the All-Star Game was that there weren't many opportunities to see the best players in the world on the diamond, so this was really your lone opportunity, especially if you didn't have cable television.

If you are an Athletics fan, the CBA screwed you over.
Well, I'm expecting relocation for them soon. Can't imagine wanting to stay in a dump they can't afford any longer.
