RA Dickey signed a 1 year deal with the Braves. Oh yeah. Braves really digging into that rebuild by signing a 42-year-old knuckleballer.

How in the ass did Arenado get Silver Slugger at 3rd over Kris Bryant?
Arenado's a fantastic player, but that should have went to Bryant. They had similar stats, but Arenado played at Coors, and the home and away splits show that.

But _____ played at Coors Nothing against this particular poster when I say this (and this is merely a different topic altogether because Bryant is awesome and deserving, so I'm not debating that he shouldn't get offensive awards this season) but ... Quoted above is the one phrase in all of sports other than overuse of the word "adversity" that I wish would go away forever and never be brought to light again. Man, it ticks me off so bad. Let's just move the Colorado franchise altogether then if everything that happens there is delegitimized. Let's at least make them ineligible for the playoffs and let's make anyone who plays them just an exhibition. And ANYONE who has ever in their lives said "but ___ plays at Coors" as anway of cutting down a good hitter had better sign in blood that ANY Rockies pitcher with a 5.00 or lower ERA in any season is greater than Maddux, Koufax, and Pedro combined and is ROBBED if they don't win the Cy Young. It's hypocrisy to say anything to the contrary for those that try to take away from hitters' accomplishments. That's the level of hyberbole people put into Coors Field. It's infuriating. Not denying it's a good park to play in as a hitter, but more people delegitimize hitters at this park than people taking shots at steroid users and abusers. Did you all see the other day when that Broncos linebacker hit that RB at full speed and he flew into upper deck Section 450 12 rows deep? Or that time Dikembe Mutumbo blocked a basketball and it encircled the globe 8 times before it ever landed? What a travesty! In the name of competition, ban Denver.

Now the Braves have apparently signed Bartolo Colon.
"Rebuild" apparently means "Hire a shit manager and a few 40+-year-old pitchers" in baseball speak.

I wonder how Royals fans feel about that one as for us it is a good steal.

Colon is weird. Because I know he is old, but his recent track record is really amazing. And he goes to an atrocious team (right now) for 12.5 mil. Which is about the going rate for a terrible starter. And I know Father Time could finally catch up to him this year. But how is there no team willing to pay him more with this FA class, this market for SPs (and just higher salaries for everyone in general), and his recent track record. Buchholz just got more for pretty much getting completely lit up 2 out of every 3 starts. If I was a contender, I would absolutely roll the dice on Colon for 20 mil. I mean, to a team like Texas, why would you not? If the Cards paid him 16-18 instead of picking up Garcia's option, I would have had absolutely no problem with it.

I know you ended on some pretty great hyperbole, although the Mutumbo one made me think of the post-block finger wag as some new timer for the space program, but I do agree with you on the "hey played in Coors" line. To me, the "it's higher altitude" thing is a more localized argument of the DH rule. In both cases, the league says "We want X" and players are moved to accommodate that league want. Then, seemingly, the the "gatekeeprs" penalize the players who are placed into that want based on the fact that they're not really as good as "they should be". I know, it's coming down to "screw the BBWA", and I stand by it. Is the altitude having an effect? Sure it is, but I also remember stuff back in the day about astrotruf you still hear about how grounders move so much quicker and thus defense has to adjust and might not always get to balls they would on grass. By that standard, using the same "it's Coors" and DH rules, no one who plays on astroturf for their whole career and gets lots of hits should be qualified for the Hall of Fame since there's an obvious unfair advantage for ground ball hitters in that environment.

Well, at least she really got to see and appreciate the Cubs World Series win, and for a fan like that, it is very important.

At least they made the playoffs then. Yep. What helped in the 90's is that the Braves had an owner that cared about the team and went out and got the best talent. Now, they have Liberty Media who is more concerned with ripping off the team's city and building an unnecessary stadium outside of the city limits. It also doesn't help that their "Good ole boy" nonsense gives them nothing but disappointing coaches. They're hired due to their relation to Bobby Cox/the organization rather than their actual coaching ability. I could rant all night about the Braves. At this point, it's hard to be a fan.

When did the Braves ownership change?
They still seemed to put out a worthy product as recently as 2003-2005.
