Well the "show"/meta part is always mentioned. In every episode from KTMA to now. So yeah, you should really just relax...;-) Too-long riffs is a common complaint about the new episodes. It's a bit better in The Gauntlet, but I still notice they carry on at times. Sure, but it wasn't this bad. They even mention ratings and the fact that they're on Netflix. I can't help but feel like the cold open for At the Earth's Core was a jab at the fans' reaction to Jonah replacing Mike and Joel. Maybe I'm reading too much into it. They mentioned something similar back in Season 7 (Arbitron numbers) and earlier seasons had Joel mention that the mads made the intro to sell to networks.

It's kind of like the references made back in the Beaulieu/Weinstein days. Toned down then mostly gone by the time they got to Comedy Central. But yes, more direct and more often now.

They spent years reading letters on the show sent to them by people who were watching their show, and why the break the fourth wall re: the fan club. It's always been presented as a show within a show.

So I'm just going to say that my favorite riff from the new series easily comes from Lords of the Deep:
"It's not human, Jack." "It's Kangaroo Jack."

Any chance of Mike guest appearing next season?

It's hard to say about that. Mike is busy with his Rifftrax stuff these days, and while there was cross promotion between them and the new MST last year (I missed this year's Turkey Day to know for sure) it was Bill Corbett that was part of that, not Mike or Kevin.
Would be neat to see Jonah interact, if just for a moment, with the past hosts. Joel has been there as one of the Boneheads so he could slip back into Joel Robinson at any time. We'll just have to see on Mike.
What I would like to see (which in the show's narrative would be trickier but not impossible) is some interaction between Kinga and her father, just to see what their relationship was really like. Sure he's dead, but with the crazy science there that can't be too hard to circumvent for a brief moment or two.

Kevin (and Bill) factored into the last season of MST3k on Netflix a bit, reprising as Bobo and Observer. IIRC, Joel hasn't actually appeared as Joel yet, so perhaps they're holding off on Mike for some future host reunion on the show....

If Joel was a dad to the bots and Mike was a brother, what is Jonah to them?

If Joel was a dad to the bots and Mike was a brother, what is Jonah to them? He comes across their roommate to me.

Has the crew got a replacement for Jonah if he decides to leave like Joel did? Who would be the ideal replacement? I think Matt McGinnis ( Matt Claude Van Damme) could work. Or maybe head writer Elliot Kalan. Think about it. Mike was the head writer during the Joel era, and took over when Joel left, so it's happened before

I actually ended up going to the live show in Chicago about two weeks ago. It was a great show and seeing Joel riffing again was amazing. And after seeing "The Gauntlet" *waves hands* there's some connections and... anything else I say would be a spoiler so... {Spoiler} It's very clear Season 12 was supposed to be released before the 30th Anniversary Tour. It sets up a lot of things that are part of the show.
Synthia getting smart, the introduction of Dr. Donna St. Phibes, the lack of Kinga and Max on the tour.
On the tour, Kinga and Max are no where to be found. Leaving Synthia to act as the lone Mad in the show.
I don't know why these episodes we're released after the tour. Maybe Netflix wanted to hold them off and release them in the show's 30th anniversary. Maybe they wanted it to be special since MST3K is synonymous with Thanksgiving. Who knows.
This does feel like a last-minute change up. Since it seemed the moving of the Turkey Day marathon was announced very late.
It just seems odd to me is all.

The rifftrax version of the Ator movie they did is on the rifftrax twitch at the moment, so I am internally getting to compare them. At the same time I'm thinking up what 6 movies I would like the MST3K crew to do on another Gauntlet in my perfect world...

I like the concept of the Gauntlet a lot since, well, it IS obviously a big part of Netflix, binging a show in one go, even if I don't typically do that. It's a good premise.

Can you choose on Netflix if you want to watch the Gauntlet as a, well, gauntlet?

Watched Mac and Me.
I think the riffing in S12 is better. I also think the host segments are better.

The main difference being Season 1 had too few riffs at times, while Season 11 tended to have too many at once.

So, can we talk about how Ator wanted to marry his sister?

So, can we talk about how Ator wanted to marry his sister? Probably in the days when this is supposed to be set in, that was more common than we like to admit.
