There is a special surprise at the end of episode 4 that I didn't expect.

At some point in the next few days, I'll subscribe to Netflix long enough to watch these. Looking forward.

I'm watching the rifftrax twitch channel at the moment while I wait for peeps to get off my netflix so I can use it... And they played the mst3k reunion show with all the shorts. And Jonah is really good with these shorts. Now it makes me feel doubly bad that they are so particular about their movie "quality" choices, it would be nice if they could do an episode of all shorts on netflix. Although I suppose somewhere out there there must be random corporate training videos and what not that are filmed in random high quality. Companies still make these things, right?

When I saw that one of the experiments was Ator (not a spoiler, all the experiments are revealed at the start of ep 1, unless you are watching them out of order .. then sorry)
I thought MST3K already did Ator ... but then I realised it was Rifftrax that did it.. it’s on Amazon Prime Video if you have it. So you can do a comparison.

Watched the first two episodes.
I feel like the pacing of some of the riffs has gotten better, moreso in Mac And Me, though I feel like Atlantic Rim sometimes gave them precious little to comment on. Still, they got some good gags in, even if that movie was kinda grueling.

Season 11 being edited down, I get. Those episodes seemed to be made for a possible TV airing prior to Netflix picking up the show.
Season 12? Not feeling it. There's no need for the movies being that edited down considering it was exclusively made for Netflix. I like that they eliminated the "commercial breaks". But I thought they would keep the movies at original length.
I didn't like them riffing an Asylum movie. The entire point of the studio is to make purposely bad movies. It's like riffing a comedy. You can't really joke about something that's already a joke.
With a year-and-a-half cliffhanger, I can see some fans being disappointed in the resolution to what happened to Jonah at the end of season 21. But it fits with MST3K lore. Season 7 ended with Mike and Service becoming beings of light, and season 8 began with them going back to normal because they got bored.
I'm only two episodes into The Gauntlet. Mac and Me was ok. Atlantic Rim was a chore to get through. I hope the other four are better.

The Netflix contract isn't going to last forever.

Thought that episodes 4, 5, and 6 were pretty gosh darn good. Particularly Killer Fish (5). 4 and 5 had really good host segments IMO and the riffing in 5 and 6 were probably the best of the season (and 4 was really good in that department too come to think of it). The only part of Killer Fish that had me scratching my head was during the one attack where they sang over the entirety of it, visually there were so many things one could mock there that became missed opportunities, but that might just because I'm not a fan of the in-movie singing segments. I was a fan of The Day Time Ended (4) beforehand so it was fun to see them light it up. Ator probably could have used the old slightly sleazy Kevin Murphy Tom Servo. The new crow has solidified as very good in my book at this point (I have a hard time ranking the crows, they are all amazing IMO), probably my favorite of the "new cast". I like Kinga, Max, and Jonah too... and while Servo has some good host segments he often seems to be a determinant in the theater. Atlantic Rim and Lords of the Deep were both deep hurting; Atlantic Rim in particular just felt wrong on pretty much ever level. I enjoyed Mac and Me, but that might have been in spite of the riffing at times... It did deliver the single funniest moment of the gauntlet, IMO, when the shootout broke out.
My brother got netflix just to watch it so we linked out streams so we could joke together during the thing (What might have allowed me survive Atlantic Rim) and I had a lot of fun with the "Gauntlet" format because of it. I would be cool if they did seasons more often if they were going to be this short, but that might be me being greedy. That and there so many movies I've seen (And haven't seen!) I would love them to lay into. I'm interested to see where the cliffhanger ending goes.

I thought MST3K already did Ator ... but then I realised it was Rifftrax that did it. MST3K did do Ator already...well, Ator part 2, aka Cave Dwellers. There's four in the series. I didn't like them riffing an Asylum movie. The entire point of the studio is to make purposely bad movies. That's not exactly true. Asylum is nothing more than the modern-day Roger Corman, ripping off whatever is popular and making a cheap clone. Just like Corman, Asylum has a small amount of their films that are done as "satire" or tongue-in-cheek (just like Corman's original Little Shop of Horrors) to cash in on the Sharknado thing, but most of them are made completely serious. That they're bad doesn't change, but they're not setting out to make them all goofy like Sharknado. Most of them are just cheap and boring. There's actually a small handful of fairly decent ones too. They edit the movies down to fit the show in a time slot for TV syndication. The Netflix contract isn't going to last forever. They went way beyond what they normally edit them down to this time, though. The films this season run about 10 minutes shorter than any other shows from any other seasons.

Random aside but...out of the three main ladies in the first two Ator movies...I think the one that played the sister-wife was the most plain looking of the three.

I have not yet finished this season, but I do want to say, I've really loved Kinga in the host segments. I feel like she's gotten some of the biggest laughs out of me, and obviously Patton's been solid.

I liked it, had some good giggles in there. I'm actually a fan of shorter season, so the 6 episode "Gauntlet" was a perfect set-up for me.

I've now watched 11 episodes of S11, and I have a few complaints about the new series.
The show is a bit too meta and self-aware for my tastes. Like when Kinga said, "Anger thousands of fanfiction writers" when she forces Jonah to marry her in Carnival Magic, or the whole thing about MST3K being a show instead of just an experiment.
Speaking of that, I'm not a fan of how they changed it to a show. I preferred the cheesy public access show feel to the original.
Thirdly, I feel like some jokes go on too long. Jonah or the bots will make a riff, then drag on the joke for several more seconds. Joel, Mike, Trace, Bill and Kevin knew when to end a joke.
Maybe I'm just being nitpicky. What do you think?

I've been watching the S11 episodes out of order. It's not like story really matters in a show like MST3K.

Well the "show"/meta part is always mentioned. In every episode from KTMA to now. So yeah, you should really just relax...;-) Too-long riffs is a common complaint about the new episodes. It's a bit better in The Gauntlet, but I still notice they carry on at times.

I can't help but feel like the cold open for At the Earth's Core was a jab at the fans' reaction to Jonah replacing Mike and Joel. Maybe I'm reading too much into it.
