I think the use of the word "game" makes this controversial. It's clearly not a "game".

I hesitantly agree that this is fine in an educational and historical context. But calling this a game is... very problematic and something I'm inclined to strongly disagree with.

Pretty much my reaction when I read the first line in the OP.

It's pretty incredible that we can recreate history like this now. I think this would get a lot of positive attention if it wasn't used for something that was a fresh wound for a lot of people. You could be there for the moon landing or be a passenger on the Titanic, for instance.

The most controversial game ever is a porn VR game where you experience 9/11.

It would be more offensive if you played as one of the terrorists.

Actually it's kinda cool, from a historical viewpoint. If they made it an actual "game" where you find an assault weapon and need to get yourself to the ground and out the building before the time t elapsed while fighting throngs of mini Satans I'd say it's in horrible taste, but to experience a true event in our history as horrifying as it is brings you into what was a historical day

I don't really find it offensive, it's no different than the few 9/11 movies that have been made, I don't think either are a great idea, there's no sense in fetishizing what it was like to be a victim in 9/11 and create fictional events around it but filmmakers and game developers have a right to explore it. If the game is at all accurate I think they would have saved a lot of lives on 9/11 if people who worked in the World Trade Center didn't lock every door from the outside but I guess that's a hindsight thing. Lest we forget the 4 people that we lost that day.

I'm rarely, RARELY numb to a subject like this, but am I the only one who's too dumbfounded by the thick Euro accents, robotically stiff animation and bubble-smoke to take anything about how this was presented seriously for even a second?

It was originally created as a school project from students in Europe, that likely explains it. From what I understand, this game/simulation is free, so that makes it easier to digest on some levels. I personally am not against this, at the same time I don't really think its needed either, and earlier poster mentioned other historical moments that could be done, which would have been a better way to start.

Setting a game during 9/11 isn't necessarily offensive in itself. No more than setting a game during say World War II.
It depends on how it is done.
