Curious. Does Rey go from normal person to 'expert fighter and magic user' in an instant or is there some sort of progression? The following block answers the questions with minimal spoilers: {Spoiler}It's more or less a series of "whoa I have no idea how I can do this" things The following spoils Reys arc in the movie: {Spoiler}It's established in the beginning that she's competent with fighting with that stick thing. Then there are a couple of non-fighting things where she's inexplicably also good at. She's not only able to resist Kylo Ren's mind reading but to also read his mind and do a Jedi mind trick to convince the guards to release her. Then in the end she's just flailing the lightsaber until there's a moment of clarity and "the force awakens" and she wins the fight.

I don't think we need a spoiler tag in a spoiler thread You don't. You can talk aout how it seems like 90% of what people projected is true, the classic JJ Abrahams maguffin being the robot etc

I know kung fu' even that had set up. But its still kinda disappointing. I assume Finn is rendered useless and becomes Peeta to her Katniss then?

I guess Finn will be the "Force? I just shoot things with blasters" Han Solo-type while Rey will be the Force using warrior in training type.

There must be an update to this
All you have to is change two names and keep the exact same sentence

I'm going tonight. I guess I'm excited, but thanks to social media, I've already seen spoilers that some have posted without warning. I guess it's my fault for being naive enough to believe that wouldn't happen. {Spoiler}Learning that Han dies kinda already ruins it for me/makes me hate the movie. He's my favorite character and the main reason I got so into Star Wars in the first place.

Just noticed it and was hoping no one saw before I fixed it. I seriously apologize. I am an idiot.

It turned the movie from a must-see first screening to an "I'll get around to it later".

I get that Harrison Ford probably didn't want to do any more of them, but I really wish they would've found another way to get rid of the character without killing him off.

Qui Gon, Obi Wan, and now Han. Better to kill off the character whose actor has wanted as little to do with Star Wars as possible than to off Leia or Luke.
That being said, I don't expect either to survive the trilogy.

I'm glad for this thread. I hope I see something that makes me actually want to see this movie, and move beyond the feelings of "it's Star Wars and thus I am obligated to see it" that I've felt from pretty much the beginning. JJ burned me bad with The Rehash Of Khan. I don't think I can take that a second time. I'm curious as to how the movie is going to feel. What I'm hoping is this is chapter 1 of a brand new saga. If it's a tacked on continuation, then they completely missed the point of of the 1930s Sci Fi Serial style that Star Wars was inspired by and a throwback to.

Even though I knew Han was dead the moment he stepped foot on that bridge, it still felt like a punch in the balls when Kylo Ren stabbed him with the lightsaber.
The only gripe I have with Han's death was that his body fell into that abyss so Han didn't even have the dignity of having his body returned to Leia or anything like that.

Maybe it gives the producers an option if they want to bring him back and say "oh he didn't really die" I'd be more inclined to go with that theory if Han had ever connected with the Force at some point, but he never did in the OT and I don't think they even hinted that Han had done anything with the Force in the 30 years since. That and I also think Harrison Ford was only game for the one movie and then move on.

{Spoiler}I made a joke when Han fell that he was then transported to Slave-1 via long range teleport and was again frozen in carbonite to prevent him from losing his vitals
Yeah I like to think Bobba survived the Sarlac in even this revised canon

I went to see it this morning at 3:15am and it was definitely worth staying awake for. I thought it was amazing. 1000 times better than the prequels and my favourite since Empire Strikes Back. The original cast was great (especially Harrison Ford) but the new guys stole the show. Daisy Ridley, John Boyega and Oscar Isaac were all fantastic (ive already fallen in love with Daisy Ridley)

Was anyone reminded of Mozenwrath from the old Aladdin tv series when Kylo unmasked?
And this is all that sprang to my mind at the end
