Apparently it is a loose sequel and JJ kept it a secret this whole time. Played before the movie 13 Hours.

They could've stopped that goddamn monster if the men armed and ready to do so weren't told to stand down!

Apparently JJ has confirmed that it is a "blood relative" to Cloverfield.

When the door is opened and the Monster is revealed, it'll be a hungry, pissed off Rosanne Bar, yelling for Darlene and Becky to get out of the basement and Dan to stop listening to that music.

I thought there would never be another.. But just like the first one, it comes out of nowhere.
Looks very different... Does not look to be found footage, recognisable actors (TJ Miller and Lizzy Caplan were still up and coming when the first one came out), and it might not even be a giant monster movie for all we know.
There is a bit of a Fallout vibe to it.

So psyched for this. I loved the original and the hype for it was so fun. The concept for this is really interesting.

All I remember from the hype was a. some people were convinced it was Voltron for some reason... and 2. someone found an ARG for a fallout style pen and paper rpg and everyone just assumed it was related to cloverfield for some reason

Seeing as how it's a "loose" sequel with people being held up underground because John Goodman's character is telling them they can't go outside. I'm betting those parasites from the first movie are probably the main issue this time around.
Still be nice to see the big monster again!
Either way, I'm soo there. I LOVED the first one.

Kudos on keeping it a complete surprise like this, and the out-of-nowhere nature of its trailer is pretty cool. Not really a kaiju guy so not likely to actually see the movie, but still, well done.

Almost looked like a LOST movie. What with the bunker and all.

Based on the information the trailer gives us and the possible implications of it, I wonder if maybe this is set in the future of the Cloverfield timeline?
Like, Cloverfield mixed with Fallout. Where John Goodman's character built this shelter for his family & he's been raising his kids underground this entire time. With them unaware of how messed up the outside world really is presumably.
If so, it also makes me wonder if maybe John Goodman's character was at NYC when the first attack happened. Obviously he couldn't be any of the original cast we saw, but it could explain his decision and his fear of letting them go anywhere.

How in the blue hell did they keep this such a big secret from everyone? I mean, did any media outlet even have an ounce of a clue this was being made?
