"Man fears time, yet time fears the Pyramids....." -Ancient Arab proverb. Of course Time wears down mountains. I once heard on the Discovery channel that in 10,000 years historians of the day will probably have debates on if the Pyramids even exited or not. That's kind of chilling. The thought that everything we think of as great and might being so long gone that future generations even debate their existence...... Damn.

1. How did Paris Hilton get a record deal? 2. Why do hot dogs and hot dog buns come in different quanities? 3. How is Keith Richards still alive? 4. Why do we park on driveways and ride on parkways? 5. When will Bam Magera just leave his family alone? 6. How come Tiny Toons isn't on DVD yet? 7. Just how did Don West become a wrestling commentator anyway?
Those, my friends, are the 7 wonders of the world ;D

Oh my god, in 10,000 years, everyone will have the brain power of Paris Hilton well photographs as well as all of our media have a limited life span. 10,000 years is a loooooooooog time in human years. Imagine if some World wide disaster strikes 2,000 years from now, and it takes humanity another 2,000 to recover from it. The people of that age might think of all of our acheavments as just a myth, if at all. Imagine America being thought of 4,000 years from now as we think of Atlantis now, just a myth.

If you know your history, you would know that there is only 1 of the original 7 wonders of the world still standing (The Great Pyramid of Giza). So therefore you can now vote for the new official Seven Wonders of the World. Seeing as I was always really interested in this kind of thing at school, I was wondering if anyone here actually cares about it as well. Here are the choicesWhat would you pick? My 7 votes are: The Pyramids of Giza Stonehenge The Great Wall of China The Statue of Liberty Petra The Christ Redeemer The Roman Colosseum Stonehenge The Great Wall of China The Statue of Liberty These 3 I defently think deserve it, I don't know what else i would vote for?

Stonehenge The Great Wall of China The Statue of Liberty These 3 I defently think deserve it, I don't know what else i would vote for? How about The Pyramids of Giza? That one was an original wonder. I agree about the Great Wall of China, I used to think it was one of the ancient wonders but it wasn't. I was thinking wheter or not to say the Statue of Liberty. It means many things and is amazing to see in person, but it was a little too new, same with the Eiffel tower, and the Taj Mahal. But I added the Statue of Liberty anyway, because it just means soo much. I really wanted to add StoneHenge, it has some endurance on it. It's the oldest of all the choices. Sydney Opera House, imo isn't exactly a "Wonder" It's a uniquely designed building which is impressive to look at but doesn't mean much really. Compared to the rest, it's just a new building.

I'll be back with my picks later, but the discussion about " our achievements might not be remembered" got me thinking of my favorite poem ever, which deals with just that.. enjoy
I met a traveller from an antique land Who said: Two vast and trunkless legs of stone Stand in the desert ... Near them, on the sand, Half sunk, a shattered visage lies, whose frown, And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command, Tell that its sculptor well those passions read Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things, The hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed: And on the pedestal these words appear: "My name is Ozymandias, king of kings: Look on my works ye mighty and despair!" Nothing beside remains. Round the decay Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare The lone and level sands stretch far away.
-- Percy Bysshe Shelley

The Sydney Opera House has no place there. Yes, it is a cool building and a feat in acoustics, but it jus doesn't have the "Wonder of the World" feel that the others do. QFT. Save for the acoustics, I'll put the Statue of Liberty and the Eiffel Tower in that same category. Those three locales mean so much to so many and have so much emotion attatched to them. But as stand-alone structures, they aren't in the same league as the other given choices. I'm not voting yet, because I've narrowed only narrowed my field to 8. The Pyramids of Giza is a lock, seeing as how it's one of the originals. The Great Wall of China, the Acropolis, and The Colliseum are also locks for me. That leaves me to pick three of the following four: Angkor (Cambodia) - Perhaps the greatest structure of all of SE Asia, save for the Wall. Christ the Redeemer (Brazil) - Looking at it, even in pictures, is absolutely awe-inspiring. And that's coming from an agnostic. Stonehenge (UK) - Perhaps more amazing than the structure itself is that nobody knows how it was made. Taj Mahal (India) - For some reason, it has this feel of "amazing" whenever you look at it.

Surprised and saddened that the Empire State Building isn't listed or Old Trafford ;D
Well anyway here is what I voted for with a film and in one case a videogame in which the landmark is destroyed in brackets.
Colosseum (The Core) Easter Island Statues (Mars Attacks!) Eiffel Tower (Mars Attacks/Team America) Great Wall (Superman IV) Kremlin/St Basil (Command & Conquer - When you win the game as the Brotherhood Of NOD/ And I think Rodan destroys it 'Destroy All Monsters') Pyramids (Team America) Stonehenge (European Vacation)

Where's the Angkor Wat? It's the largest religious structure in the world! Guinness says so!

Taj Mahal (India) - For some reason, it has this feel of "amazing" whenever you look at it. I was going to vote for that one too, because Taj Mahal is a nickname some of my friends called me for a while. Yeah, maybe I should replace the Statue of Liberty for that one. Maybe.
