Who saw that coming?!? I can see the bizarro smark Mania crowd cheering for Trips. Between his NXT work, the fans being on a nostalgia kick and being sick of another 2 months of being force fed Reigns, it's a real possibility. I've often believed that's exactly why Cena was booked so shitty, so Trips could play saviour real wrestler and the fans bought it. It's working out well again.

For the story they're telling, it pretty much makes the most sense.
That's not to say it's the most interesting story they coulda told, but at least it has had a logical progression.

I love that in 2016 HHH won the Rumble & the WWE Title in the same moment and people are actually kinda into it.
The bar is preposterously low at this point.

And shit like this is why they don't have any new stars. Ambrose would have been made tonight if he won that opening match than the Rumble. HHH even at almost 50 years old still burying everyone.

My two wishes today were anyone but Roman and anyone but the Patriots. So I'm not complaining.

Nothing good comes out of this.. It keeps their mid card looking like s****. They can't can even hang with an old rusty wrestlers who's prime ended like a DECADE ago.. And it just continues the "Reigns overcoming the odds" which isn't getting over and gets him booed out of WM.
NOTHING GOOD came out of this rumble. Nothing at all.

Could be worse, could be Alberto Del Rio. That's my answer to the dismaying things in life. I stubbed my toe? It could be worse, I could be watching an Alberto Del Rio match. The Patriots lost the AFC Championship Game? It could be worse, I could be watching an Alberto Del Rio match. That girl I've been pursuing says she likes me just as a friend? It could be worse, I could be watching an Alberto Del Rio match.

I think HHH should relinquish the title, citing he only wanted the title off Reigns, and then he gets challenged at WM. The title match would be too predictable. Part-timer vs. blatant favorite star? They don't have an out with Rollins, either. At least make it a triple threat or add a sense of unpredictability to a title match if they go there.

Nearly word for word what I was going to say. I'm not angry about it, and it makes sense, though I would have changed some things around, like having Styles last to the final three or so before getting eliminated by Triple H. Reigns vs HHH will be a great match but I'm not compelled to renew my subscription or anything.

In all honesty, I haven't watched in a couple of months. I watched the Rumble because it's my favorite match of the year. This year's Rumble was very similar to 2014, which was a solid match until the ending, which left me vastly disappointed. And based on what the possible matches are for Mania based on this match, I might skip that this year.

The incredibly biased mark side of me is like, "Man, HHH these nuts."
The critical, analytical side of me is so freaking happy with that match. So much great booking I want to toss some money at my laptop like this shit was in Mexico.
Styles debuting to a massive pop (probably the biggest of the night) only to get eliminated by Owens so he can get his heat back from the loss earlier in the night. Zayn shows up and makes an impact by eliminating his hated rival. Roman being taken out mid-way through the match so you don't have to give away Roman/Lesnar before their eventual rematch that should be built up huge. That's also why they had to get Styles out of there before Lesnar got in, now Styles doesn't have to be bodied by Brock on his first night in. Truth being f***ing hilarious. Roman getting flash eliminated after a distraction by Sheamus so you don't have to give away HHH/Roman for more than a couple minutes.
Not only did nearly everything make sense, the action was exciting the entire way through. The last five minutes were just great for the most part. So often, WWE seemingly goes out of their way to annoy my wrestling OCD. Tonight, they basically had sex with my wrestling OCD and it was outstanding. Somebody hand me a cigarette.

They surely have to have noticed Reigns got booed out the building fighting HHH and Ambrose got a massive pop. Maybe that will build to something...

WWE has Owens, Ambrose, lesnar, wyatts and aj f***ing styles. I couldn't care less about that main event anyway. Hhh is better than Reigns anyway

What I said in the rumble thread....
f*** this shit. I was Trips' biggest fan back in the day but this is just ego-stroking at the expense of the younger talent. He now gets to main event in front of 100,000 fans, something he doesn't deserve. When will the McMahon family realise it's not all about them? We close the show with a guy who wrestles once a year embracing his plastic bint of a wife and out of touch father in law. This is not good heat, it's the kind of heat that killed WCW. Grab that brass ring guys but don't you dare take the spot of a guy who should retire and is only in the spot he is because he chucked his muck up the Boss' daughter. We'll give you a spot in a meaningless battle royal that might not even make the actual show and give the main spots to guys who wrestle on a yearly basis. Work on the road all year long, work through injuries and hardly ever see your families. Your reward, the chance to win a trophy that has the same lustre as a f***ing Slammy..

Reigns vs HHH will be a great match but I'm not compelled to renew my subscription or anything. Right, I can't say I'm excited for it, though it'll be a good match. But like I said, given the story they've been telling there's one way to go that makes sense for the narrative. Now whether they should've written it this way in the first place, I can get not caring for; but I will at least say from a story structure standpoint it's been built well.
