It's obvious this is what Vince wants, but will it actually happen if the crowd doesn't get behind him a lot better? Do they really want another John Cena situation where it's going to be half cheers/half boos again? I still think he's going to get booed out of the building at Mania this year if the match is HHH/Reigns for the title.

I think they would love a John Cena situation. But, not sure that happens here. Cena could adapt very well city to city.

Boy I f***ing hope not. If some, it's going to be awful to watch them try and pretend this guy is over for the next few years.

He'll get booed regardless it's just a matter of if he's a face or not, there's no way to salvage that. Absolutely no way. Either way we will see but given how Vince is Reigns is going to have to completely plummet or else he'll always be the dude. They'll probably take him off the road for that bone chip elbow thing and see if he's better received when he returns and also turn him heel but then turn him back face to see how he's received. If all of these things fail then yeah he might not be the main guy yet but they've got so many plans in place for him just in case.

Wouldn't they rather have a Rock/Austin situation where the vast majority of the crowd is behind their main guy? It just shows that half the audience isn't happy with the direction & business will stay the same or get worse as the years go by if the main guy is being forced down half the audience's throat that they don't even care about.

True, I definitely see your point. I was thinking more in terms of merchandise sales, etc. But I would much prefer someone be a majority heel or face in this situation.

They f***ed him forever with the Royal Rumble last year. Having Daniel Bryan eliminated early didn't help, but when Cousin Rock came out and raised it hand it let people know nepotism got the rocket strapped to Roman's ass. The fans aren't as dumb as the WWE think they are.

No chance. Cena was great in his rise to the top, and while bad booking hurt him in some ways, he was still good enough to transcend wrestling fandom. Reigns is not as good as Cena right now but arguably gets worse reactions than he did (imagine Reigns at an ECW reunion show), and apparently has yet to be officially coronated.
WWE needs someone different from Cena to be their new mega star. Cena was different from Rock & Austin, as they differed from Hogan and Bret. Bryan & Punk could have been those guys, but that time has passed. Ambrose or Zayn could do it, and on the women's side, maybe even Bayley. Not Reigns. At best, he will be a lesser known Randy Orton, sans a meme-worthy finisher.

I don't get why they don't just turn Reigns already. Take a look at that heel roster. Who is the top heel? I guess HHH, who isn't even a full time wrestler at this point. I'd think an interesting scenario would be Reigns turning on Ambrose after WM. For a while I thought Ambrose constantly coming up short combined with Reigns winning the title would equal a Dean heel turn, but given recent events it might be something else. Why else would Ambrose even be in the Fast Lane main event unless there might be a plan to put him over? Given that it's a 3 way with some obvious Wyatt run ins coming the only guy I figure Bray Wyatt could stomach winning would be Ambrose. There's already a feud with Lesnar developing, and there was the whole "Anyone but you, Roman" bit that was referenced as recently as the Rumble build.

I very much doubt it. They only pushed Cena as hard as they did because he was a merchandising machine. The guy sold so much stuff that who really cares if he's booed or not. As far as I can tell, Reigns' shirts aren't flying off the racks. They'll abandon the notion of him being top dog unless this changes.

Theres a good chance that the people who rejected Cena and are rejecting Reigns might not wait around this time. They might just stop being fans. And it's not like Cena brought in a bigger audience. He just stopped the post Monday Night Wars bleeding by bringing in enough new fans to replace the ones leaving. I don't think Reigns would have that much appeal as is. There just isn't much to his character to make people want to check him and the show out.

They seem to be trying to make this happen. They think they will shove him down people's throats until the people that aren't fans just start to begrudgingly accept it like with Cena.
Now, can they actually pull it off? I don't know. Maybe they can but while Roman gets a lot of boos, he doesn't even polarize the audience like Cena does. People will passionately chant their Cena love or Cena hatred. Roman gets boos, but they aren't even as enthusiastic as Cena's booing section, ditto his cheers. People just don't care as much about him either way.

I don't see it, at all. I like Roman Reigns as a wrestler, but this insistence to have him be the top guy regardless of how the fans feel about him isn't working. I've said this before, but the crowd cheered HHH when he eliminated Reigns at the Royal Rumble. When was the last time anyone cheered HHH as a character since he turned heel?

Good point, I didn't think about that. I mean the crowd even chanted for stale babyface Big Show over Triple H.

I think they'll go for the grand coronation at Mania 32, he'll be booed anyway, then they'll try it again at Mania 33 and if the crowd doesn't cheer for it that time they'll give up.

Yes
If WWE are intent on it, it'll happen.
