It just all seems weird to me that Bryan's retiring after he was so adamant on returning to the ring. He denounced doing anything else other than wrestling including being an announcer, a trainer and an on-air figure, he was told that he couldn't even be let out of his contract...now suddenly his Tide commercial's coming out, his hair's short, he's announced he's retiring on Raw tonight, he'll be on ESPN this week. What's happening? Either Bryan realized he was never being cleared and the WWE gave him a hell of a new deal which he couldn't refuse or this is a work. I highly doubt he's heading to New Japan since they're promoting the hell out of him right now. Regardless, amazing wrestler, probably the #1 guy recently who overcame everything they threw at him and he's changed not only those in the business but fans as well. He will be missed. maybe he decided leaving to wrestle elsewhere would put stress on his marriage with Brie

My best guess would be with them refusing to let him go and freezing his contract, he probably figured he has no choice but to play ball with them for now and take some other unrelated job because otherwise he's basically stuck unable to leave.

Goddamn, what a shame. Still, Bryan has had a career that most wrestlers could only dream of - from being internationally renowned as the best wrestler on the planet on the indies, to becoming the most universally beloved babyface WWE has had since the Attitude Era. As much as his presence has and will be missed, I'm glad that at least he gets to retire with his youth, and hopefully his health, intact.

Yeesh, and people are telling Sheamus to kill himself on Twitter already. So f***ing stupid, considering they're buddies IRL. Telling Sheamus to kill himself is cruel and douchebaggy, but people are understandably upset. One of the best wrestlers in the world didn't get to have the rightful run on top that he deserved because WWE was too set in their ways and too focused on the guys that they wanted to get over, guys that many fans deemed lesser than Bryan. I'm upset about that as well (and I like Sheamus). Yeah, no. It's just stupid and and f***ed up of them. Nothing else.

Being upset about someone retiring doesn't make it okay to project on to his friend because of some goofy myth that one's been trying to hold the other down. But Bryan WAS held down. Not by Sheamus personally but by the company and its outdated views. And maybe Bryan's body wouldn't be so beaten to shit if he wasn't trying too hard trying to make this company open their eyes to real talent. But a talent of Bryan's caliber being forced to retire while lesser guys who couldn't hold his jock in the ring are still running around (admittedly including guys that I like) is going to fester resentment. The only thing those fans did wrong was use the words "kill yourself".

Why? This thread itself is a vessel to talk about Bryan before he himself says what he wants to. Because we don't know anything, if he has all the inside info then great but I think he should let Bryan say himself what is happening in his own words and THEN he can give the backstory. Just let the guy have his moment y'know? I kind of understand your sentiment, but I don't think Bryan's moment is contingent on what Meltzer says at all. I think regardless of what Meltzer says or when he says it, Bryan will have his moment. So I very respectfully disagree.

Can't say I was a terribly big fan of his but it's a shame to see him go out this way. Wish him the best.
In other news, we DO still have Show and Kane going fairly strong.

Man, sometimes you get so lost in defending something or someone that you forget what you're even talking about. You're not defending poor fans that the mean old board members called idiots, you're defending twitter trolls that told an innocent man to kill himself.

Not to mention there was that complete and utter bullshit story about Sheamus claiming a bounty WWE put out for anyone who shoot injured Bryan.

Meltzer is saying it's legit It's kind of sad when we need confirmation that someone is actually retiring and it isn't a storyline.
