I think Bryan got one because of the extraordinary circumstances. Chiefly it was a conclusion to a few years of speculation about his health. Often, guys will just fade out or be 'fired' as a kayfabe exit even if they're stars that get featured a lot. This. Even Austin and Rock didn't get retirement speeches. Rock never retired. He still hasn't. He even makes a point of stating "I'm not retired". That's also why he's not in the HOF yet. They wanted him to go in the year he guest hosted, but then he said he wanted to wrestle Cena so they went to the year long build for that. My guess is he'll use the platform of his induction for that speech. Austin also retired a long time ago now (14 years since his last match), but at the same time he stuck around for a while even after his last match (GM/Sheriff etc). He also seems like the type that would not want to do something like that (a speech). They're not the best comparisons to use here. Austin is the closest, but he's not the type to give a sappy speech plus he stuck around for quite a while after his last match. Bryan got the Edge treatment. There was already a precedent for this particular reason for a speech. Most guys just wait til their inductions. Besides Mark Henry, but that was brilliant anyway. Guys getting in-ring retirement speeches are rare and due to extenuating circumstances. Flair, the old fart who loses a career match, and Edge/Bryan who are forced to due to serious injuries. Its impossible to predict who will get one and frankly, I don't want to see them b/c they aren't fun things, but at least Flair's was somewhat "happy" in some respects despite him bawling. HHH will likely never give one b/c he's going to be around for ages into the future. He'll give his "retirement speech" at his HOF ceremony.

Zack Ryder...........Vince would rib him and have the lights turned off when he starts to talk, then they ditch him there.

Cena would be a slam-bang certainty. Taker and Kane should, but I reckon they might actually choose not to, keep it kayfabe.

Cena won't get a retirement speech for the same reason Austin didn't, because they didn't want to admit one of their biggest stars and merchandise sellers could no longer wrestle and endure the shareprice drop that follows. We'll hear a bunch of stories about how banged up he is and his appearances will get more and more sporadic but that's it.
Bryan was a rare case where this needed to happen to give closure to him, his fans and as a PR exercise to make it clear they now take concussions seriously.

I can see Undertaker and Kane getting some kind of kayfabe segment where they disappear or get carried off by druids or something rather than a speech.

The only real people that get this in ring so far are main eventers that retired due to Injuries (one suddenly, the other not as suddenly but who was out for over a year with injuries) ... and Ric Flair. So... I really don't want to speculate since that would be sorta like wishing injury on people. I can only think that Taker's retirement speech would be after a HoF induction and not an in ring thing.

If any of the Shield members had to retire, they would no doubt get a speech.
Anyone from the 2002 OVW class, or the Attitude Era will probably get a speech, and people like Dolph Ziggler, Bellas, Kofi, Cody for their tenure, Swagger would depend on how he's being used at that time, people like Sheamus, Del Rio, The Miz and Barrett would probably go out like Batista in 2010.

They need to stop doing this "retirement speech" stuff. It's a joke, wrestling like the music industry is a place where you're only retired when you're dead. Most of these guys find their way back into the ring one way or another.

I forget if Shawn had a speech... if so he has never wrestled again despite a few sporadic appearances on the show.

Now that I think about it, William Regal got no retirement speech, which makes me doubtful about people like Goldust and the Dudleys.

Most of these guys find their way back into the ring one way or another. You make it sound like they do them every other week. This is literally the 2nd one in the last 10 years (at least on WWE's stage) and for a very legitimate reason. Edge and Bryan are literally the ONLY ones who got this sort of treatment and deservedly so. Edge hasn't wrestled since and its highly unlikely that Bryan will. I don't really count Flair, which is obviously who you're referring to. That was a completely different ballgame and we've not seen any like him since. These speeches are rare. And they should remain rare outside of the HOF induction. We're talking about 2 guys who legitimately suffered career ending injuries and one of the greatest performers in history who wasn't quite ready to end his career. So what? All 3 IMO deserved that moment, regardless of Flair's inability to stay retired. Mark Henry notwithstandaing, but obviously that was storyline and hilarious and awesome.

Not many guys in the WWE will get them. Cena will, for sure. He'd love that shit. Undertaker could but won't want one. Same for Kane, I'd imagine. Big Show? Possibly, if he ever actually retires. That's about it, though. Edge and Bryan stand out because of the suddenness of their retirements and the fact that each guy was in a position on the card/with the audience where they had to let them say sayonara. IDK about Cena. I'm sure Vince, HHH, or whoever would love him too, but Cena's such a goddamn workaholic. Unfortunately, I see Cena going more the Kurt Angle route where he's wrestling long after his body has given up whether that is in WWE or not.

I could've seen it at a point, but I think Cena's shown as of late he's smarter than that. He's been taking time off more often lately, he's been building a name for himself outside of WWE, and he seems to have transitioned more into a supporting role. I think he knows full well he's running on borrowed time and plans to, if not be gone, be working a severely reduced schedule a couple of years from now.

I could see Orton doing one The speech will take all three hours plus the overrun, and will consist of exactly eight sentences. "My name.......... is Randy.... Orton...... and I am.............................…................................................................................................... ....... retired."
