To me, HHH defending the belt before Mania makes absolutely no sense unless there's a title change. Everyone's going to think HHH retains the belt any way b/c the main event is "etched in stone."
However, I think b/c everyone is turning on Roman, you're gonna get 80% of the audience booing him at Mania which will be outright embarrassing.
My guess:
It's a WWE Network special so they're gonna do something big: Dean wins the belt. HHH invokes his rematch clause, Roman argues that he won the Rumble, he gets his shot at Mania. Heyman argues that Brock signed up to face Dean, and now that Dean's champion, it should be for the belt. So it's made into a fatal 4 way.

For real, I don't even know anymore. I feel like they won't because of how much effort they've put into Roman's coronation but it's not like there's no precedent for it.

No, they're using Dean to get heat on Triple H with the belief that fans will then like Roman for sticking up for Dean. The fans are gonna see right through it and shit all over it, but that's what they get. Your idea makes way more sense at this point but Vince is set in his ways.

Nope. Ambrose is just going to be used to get HHH some heel heat, and Roman will make the save.

There wouldn't be a McMahon in every corner for one thing.

If they wouldn't take the hint by the crowd reactions every single time Ambrose and Reigns have been around each other in the past, no, they're not going to now. They think people will hate Triple H for beating Ambrose when in actuality, obviously, it's just going to inspire more booing of Roman because of how obviously they're doing the, "See, guys? Dean isn't good enough to get the job done! You need the Big Dog for that!" thing. Just like they did with Bryan, because this company never learns anything.

I agree they are using Dean to try to get Roman face pops. It's like how people used to have to beat up Shawn Michaels to get Triple H sympathy as a face.

If they did that and Ambrose took the title at Mania, it would be the perfect foil to turn Roman heel since two of his ex team mates have shafted him 2 years on the run. But I doubt this is the case, its not like the title hasnt been defended before Mania before, its just probably a big set up angle and extra hype for the Network show

No, they're establishing Dean as a contender so he can feud with Roman before Seth comes back.

No, Dean loses so he has fuel to "snap" and turn heel on Roman the day after Wrestlemania.

No they're not. The finish will be a DQ or something with the Authority or Lesnar interfering leading to Roman helping Dean. No way a title change happens

This just buys them 2 weeks of the fans not cheering HHH.
Interference in the match, Roman saves the day, gets the initial pop that night but then the following Raw it's back to being booed until Mania once Dean is out of the picture.

I'm not going to go so far as saying they're DEFINITELY not, but I'm not expecting them to do it until they actually do it.

I kind of hope Reigns costs HHH the match, then beats the shit out of Dean.
I also 100% don't expect it though, and to be honest I'm not sure I"d really want the heel turn that rushed before Mania.

Here's the thing: they treat WWE Network shows as big deal. You don't put in two weeks of hype and give away a title match 3 weeks before your biggest PPV of the year and have a screwjob finish.
IF Dean wins, that at least gives him a quick title run even if it is just a handful of weeks. The end result is most likely Roman wins, maybe he even steals the pin from Dean and wins the belt (that avoids having Brock or HHH take the pin) and it sets up a shades of gray Reigns vs. Ambrose feud for a couple of months.
I can't remember the last time WWE did something like this, having the main belt defended a few weeks before Mania. WCW use to do that during the MNW, and more often than not, there was a title change (hell just off the top of my head, Luger vs. Hogan on Nitro a week before the PPV, Goldberg vs. Hogan on Nitro)

At this point I'd rather they just proceed with their plan as is so they can see how badly it works out for them and hopefully learn something. You might as well go ahead and pull the trigger on the Roman title run. Sink or swim time.
If Roman still can't get over with fans they have a good out to just turn him heel and drop the title to Ambrose at Summerslam.

Nope they're just going to do the "Ambrose gets beaten so when Reigns saves him he's cheered" thing which as we've seen doesn't work anymore.
