So this is a short browser game that popped up on my Facebook today, it's an ARG-type promotion for Tom Clancy's The Division. The gimmick is you put in your address or whatever address and it basically simulates you as patient zero of a smallpox outbreak using open map data. collapse-thedivisiongame.ubi.com/en/Starting from my old college address in Grand Rapids, I made the world collapse (defined as the global failure of power plants and communication grids) in 26 days with 676,512,617 dead. On one hand, it does seem reasonably realistic in terms of the spread of a highly infectious virus like that, on the other hand, the "look at how fast the world would fall if something like this happened" thing is super-duper played out. There's definitely a subset of people online that I feel like get off to collapse-of-society stuff like this for whatever reason, whether it's from a survivalist perspective or what have you, which I guess is the sort of people Ubisoft wants as their audience for this.

That was kind of cool. Starting just outside of Houston, the world collapsed in 25 days.

26 days. I don't think it matters what you do.
I'll try starting in Beijing to see if population density matters.
Oh yes it does, Started in Beijing, took a flight to L.A., killed civilisation in 22 days.

Yeah, 26 days 4 hours starting from Chester. Decided to try it from my parents' house, ended up with exactly the same. It seems to skip forwards around 17 hours to the 24 mark.

Is this similar to the old Pandemic simulators (or the vastly superior Plague Inc on mobile devices)?

Is this similar to the old Pandemic simulators (or the vastly superior Plague Inc on mobile devices)? It's basically a SUPER stripped down Plague Inc. Like, take away all the "tech tree" stuff from Plague Inc, and just sub in some "choose your own adventure" kind of stuff.

The world collapsed in 23 days, 14 hours, 12 minutes. 1.62 billion roughly infected. 667,972,342 Dead.
No one bring small pox to Queens. You'll die quicker apparently.

It's fairly neat as a thing, quite a non-game though. It's a choose your own adventure in which none of your few choices matter and all is lost inside of a month. It's annoying.

... these people are pretty shitty paramedics they took me from my house on long Island to the middle of Manhattan for treatment edit: and 23 and a half days later the world has collapsed! Always takes me to California when the nearest hospital is a mile away here in Indianapolis. Yeah, there are like 3 within a few miles of my house and it took me to Columbia University Medical Center which is over an hour away. edit: also doing it again from my office and BEd Bath and Beyond is listed as a supermarket Same amount of time.... let's see if I start it in the middle of nowhere 27 days... and it only really started doing anything after I took a plane to Cancun

Started in Brooklyn, ended civilization in 26 days. The simulator made some questionable assumptions though. If I got sick in Brooklyn why would the EMS take me to a hospital in Bayonne, New Jersey?

Has anyone being able to prevent the collapse of society yet?
I've tried from various, more obscure places and the shit hits the fan as soon as I need to choose a destination to flee too.
