411mania editor Larry Csonka's take on the show. In the year 2016, with the WWE Network priced at $9.99, New Japan World priced at around $9, and iPPV events priced at $10; Ring of Honor asked their fans to pay $45 for a PPV. On that PPV they hyped the return of a company hero, who was getting a world title shot in his hometown. And on that PPV, they pulled a card out of the 1996 WCW playbook and did an nWo ending on Nitro, where the main event had no finish and the only payoff was a superkick tribute. I like the Young Bucks, I like Adam Cole, I like the wacky amount of superkicks; but this was bullshit. You can’t expect people to drop $45 on a show like this and do that. The show was largely solid, with some good highs, but ROH coming off as second class citizens to the NJPW performers, who came across as the real stars. This came off as a $45 embarrassment, an ROH should be ashamed of themselves for producing it. Word is that there is frustration among the talent with Delirious as booker, well, that includes a lot of their loyal fanbase as well. Do not waste your money on this, hell, they’ll probably fill TV with it in three months or so. This is three hours I’ll not get back That seems a bit harsh, but to repeat what I said earlier, show sounded solid to me (even with the beatdown ending) but looking at twitter you either thought the show was amazing or a huge letdown. I have heard rumors that a lot of ROH guys are kind of over the New Japan stuff since A)When the New Japan guys come over ROH is made to look inferior. B)There's a feeling a lot of the New Japan guys just don't give a damn about ROH and C)New Japan has very little interest in most of the ROH roster. As for the angle, the question becomes where do they go with it. Considering this sounds a lot like how Mount Rushmore stuff went down in PWG, I kind of get the impressing ROH was doing more pandering to the Bucks and/or New Japan.

I've known Larry Csonka for years. I'd love to sell him for what he thinks he's worth.

Thought the show was tremendous live. Loved it top to bottom! Got to meet Naito who was actually super nice. Okada, Tanahashi, Kushida, Tama, Briscoes were all super cool & got pics with them all.
4 way to open the show was fun, Briscoes/ War Machine tore the house down. Crowd went bonkers for Okada/Tana locking up & Colt Cabana was ridiculously over. Loved the Adam Cole reveal & the ending was intense live. Don't know when they cut the feed off but the Bullet Club announced a new Adam Cole shirt was for sale & was hawking merchandise hand over fist at the merch table.
Damn good show from me.

Even with a wrestling online dirtsheet, I really can't respect the opinion of a reviewer/reporter who uses an obviously made-up name. If you want to be "Larry Csonka" or "Clint from Eastwood," goody for you, but do it on a message board and don't act like you're supposed to be respected.

I'm not bothered by the New Japan stuff because they're my favorite promotion and it leads to interesting, good matchups and plenty of guys get to shine, plus I'm certain it will be ultimately beneficial in the long run and put them over huge. Tanahashi hasn't even won the title yet which I 100% believe will happen, and to have one of the greatest of all time, ever, want YOUR title is an awesome nod in and of itself, let alone him eventually competing for it, defending it, and then someone getting the rub of winning it back from the man himself. That's what I see as the endgame for this cross promotional stuff and it sounds good to me. True, the booking does often seem like "Wow, these Japanese gods are actually giving us the time of day!" but I honestly believe that's part of the dynamic they're going for to build this up long term. It adds a certain amount of drama to the proceedings. ROH simply isn't on New Japan's level right now. Eventually, I think they will be, and this is how they'll get there.
As for the ending, and the rest of the show, I paid for the damn thing and didn't mind at all. The product has a solid direction with great players and that's all I care about. That's coming from someone who has NEVER cared about the Bucks or the Bullet Club, and by all rights should be groaning about it. They are wearing on me of course, but not any more than they've already been.

Read that Cabana tried to make the save for Lethal after he was zip tied to the ropes but was taken out a second time however, the camera missed it.

Tonight was the first night I've ever bought an ROH and NJPW PPV. And I was not dissapointed. The ending was tremendous, but I love Bullet Club and one of the main sellers for me was knowing the Young Bucks were on the show. So, as far as any critics wondering why fans would pay for it with a no-contest ending, take it from a guy who has never bought an ROH or NJPW PPV.....I'll be a returning customer.

imagine liking Bullet Club in 2016
ROH has really lost its way. Thank god they have the NJPW deal. Like it or not, without it I honestly think they would be in TNA troubled waters.
They still shouldn't be presented as second class guys in comparison to NJPW guys, so I digress.

At the end of the show... my buddy who really hasn't heard a lot of the Bullet Club texted me
"So... the NWO made a comeback... good for them"
I haven't asked if he meant that as a good or bad thing...

Well I'm sufficiently disappointed. I'm not a Colt Cabana fan by any means, but he really sold me on wanting to see that main event. I love the Bucks, Cole, and Omega, but this mega heel stable shit is so played out by now. They're reaching the bad nWo territory.

The thread title is: "ROH/New Japan "Global Wars 2016" PPV (5/8)"
Screw it being the date... 5/8 seems a good rating to me. That's like 63 out of 100. About right.

Didn't like how most of the ROH guys were made to look like scrubs at the hands of the New Japan dudes, but overall, it was alright, I guess. Not amazing. Not terrible.
I loved the ending, though, honestly, since Cole has basically been my favourite on the indies since 2013.

Well, it's not like they promised something and didn't deliver. It's like one promo. They didn't exactly spend months and months building up for something and then bailing on it. Don't think this is any different than Lethal's other defenses against non-ROH talent like Liger. I understand a lot of people like Colt, but he wasn't chasing the title and beating other contenders and such. I'm not a huge Colt fan, but holy shit that promo was outstanding. The fact that they didn't spend months and months building around it is a huge mark against ROH, in my opinion. How do we know that was the payoff? How do we know they're not extending the story with the angle last night? Why can't they do months of awkward alliance between HoT and Colt against Cole and the BC culminating in a more well built title match for him?

Bullet Club is so played out. We are in the NWO stage where they are not as cool as they used to be but getting increased exposure based on previous accolades. I like Omega. I like Adam Cole Bay Bay. I don't hate the Bucks. But I hate the Bullet Club. Bad enough they pollute New Japan. Now they are in ROH doing a takeover angle. Which going to go over as well as SCUM. What was rebellious in the norm. The counter culture is the mainstream. And like the NWO, BC is lasting longer than it should.
New Japan is getting the better end of their deal with ROH. They get that North American exposure they want while coming off like rockstars compared to most of the ROH guys. I bet if Yano and YOSHI HASHI walked out last night, the crowd would gave them some of the loudest cheers of the night. ROH is leaning on NJPW way too much. It is going to effect their non New Japan box office because the fans are coming to see the Japanese Megastars and slowly stop caring about the regular roster.
The main event was going good until the ending. People say that the Lethal vs Cabana match was built on 1 promo but that 1 promo was called by most one of the best highlights of Wrestlemania weekend. I did not think Colt was going to win and Lethal would win by hook or crook. But that ending was WWE like which if that ending happened in WWE in a high stakes match, the pitchforks and torches would be justified being out. Lethal does has new threats to his reign. I just hope he doesn't turn pandering babyface in the process.

I guess I don't get the Bullet Club because I was never a fan of DX or the nWo back in the day.
So a mashup of the two with about half the talent just looks like the lamest thing ever to me.

To me, this appears to be the shoehorning in of a main-event level talent into the Bullet Club for the sole purpose of having the BC in ROH full-time.

It had like...a two or three month stretch at its start that had some oomph to it because of the impact of Devitt turning and them just being more physically vicious than attitude-wise, but as it grew so did the too sweets and crotch chops, so that's what it became. It had its cool spots and appeal for me, but totally beyond expiration date for me now.

I actually loved the way they played off the crowd's desire to cheer Bullet Club at ROH shows, all the way down to MW3 still marking out for all the superkicks. A sort of "You idiots, you keep cheering us, but we're scumbags so what did you expect?" moment.
Figuring this is sort of like Suzuki-Gun going to NOAH, but not on as big or as permanent a level.
