I'm running through it again on Hulu, and it easily still holds up.
The character dynamics and relationships were so good, I love how they gave Wolverine a sense of vulnerability without taking away from his badassery.

It really was a great show, with an awesome intro. And of course the cross promotion between XMen and Pizza Hut was an integral part of my childhood.

*duh duh*
on X-Men
Professor X: My watch has stopped.
Cyclops: I don't understand, Professor.
Professor: It's been...magnetized.
All the voices, even some of the more bland ones like Jean, are still how I hear the X-Men characters. Especially Wolverine.

It's a lot of cheesy goodness, and I think it holds up a hell of a lot better than the Iron Man one did, if nothing else.

Hulu you say? We have that. Guess I'm not going outside on my next day off.

I seriously need to find some free time to catch some episodes. I have so many fond memories of this show.

I've been doing the exact same thing recently. I think they did a good job adapting the comics, while also being mostly accessible to kids.
My only real complaint is less on the show and more on the comics at the time which influenced the show, but my god does the actual roster suck. I really hate the Jim Lee era of X-Men. Seeing Colossus and Nightcrawler reduced to guest spots while we have to suffer Gambit and Jubilee every episode is a bit of a downer for me.

It suffers a bit from being in the exact same era as Batman:TAS which was easily ten times better.
It's not its fault of course BTAS would be phenomenal in any era.

To be fair, BTAS had over six times the budget to work with. BTAS also didn't really havw storyline archs outside the occasional two or three parter. The season-long stories and continuity X-Men had, as well as the allegories of real world issues it conveyed to children, is more impressive to me than anything Batman: TAS ever did. While I'll concede the best episodes of BTAS are probably the peak of 90s animated childrens programming in everything from style to voice talent, it can't touch X-Men in terms of consistency or longterm storytelling.

From a writing standpoint, it was a good cartoon because it showed the same stories from the comic. Some would argue they shouldn't have because what's the point when you can buy the comic, and TV is supposed to follow certain rules. I think as long as its performed onscreen well, it shouldn't matter how lifted from another medium it is.
That being said, animation wise it wasn't that good. Yeah, part of that was on the budget but there's no excuse for all the cluttering detail like every arm hair on Wolverine or Cyclops' abs.....

I think that was the first American cartoon that had that long, serial style storytelling. At least that's the first American cartoon I encountered that had that.

It would have been interesting to see how the cartoon would have went had it gone with the Pryde of the X-Men format.

I didn't realize Professor X screamed a lot until I saw this video. It was pretty cool that the X-Men characters that were in Capcom's Marvel fighting games had the 90s cartoon cast in it.

I found it on Netflix not that long ago and I watched a couple of episodes. I forgot how good it was.
I loved it as a kid.

Loved it as a kid, but then the Internet came along and now all I can think of when the show comes up is this: Apocalypse was never portrayed as well in the comics as he was in animation. He seemed pretty much omniscient and omnipotent in both the Fox and WB series. Also, his lines and voice were absolutely PHENOMENAL in the Fox cartoon. Just perfect. And damn, Rogue's packing some serious junk in her trunk, lol.

The storyline and voice acting hold up for me. Unfortunately, the animation doesn't.
