Is this like the weirdest year and a half anybody has ever had with a company? He debuts and then disappears with a new bi gimmick (which was his creation). He defeats Dinero and Joe and moves on to feud with Global Champion Rob Terry. Bullshits in that feud and then ends up in some weird seduction oblivious type tag team with EY before he's released later in 2011 if I remember correctly.
This is a mess and a half. What the hell was the plan for him?

I remember the live Impact thread where we were all getting excited about who was going to debut, when Orlando appeared it was a serious 'wtf?, that guy!!!' moment. When he left TNA he went to AAW twitter.com/traskbryant/status/730463364749524992Not sure which is worse...

His music should have made him an instant title contender.

That guy is such a damn creep.
Reminds me of why I stopped watching. I was enjoying watching AJ vs Joe vs Daniels; Angle vs Wolfe; Hamada, Melissa, Sarita, Daffney, Wilde and Roxxi tearing it up in the Knockouts Division; a fantastic tag division with Beer Money, The MCMG's and the British Invasion; The Pope being amazing.... then Hogan.
Here comes Hogan, here comes Flair, here comes the Nasty Boys, here comes Val Venis, here comes Orlando Jordan and here comes a local radio DJ for reasons I am not sure of...
Never seen a company go off the rails in an instant like that.

It's a pity, if they'd had a bit of subtlety after that debut, it could have worked great. The theme music, a male and female valet, odd Gaga-ish outfits, that's a pretty decent foundation for a gimmick without having to go any further. Avoid the whole squirty-cream thing and the typical 'mind games' seduction rubbish that wasn't that great when Goldust did it, might well have been some positive PR for them.
Funnily enough, his debut might have been the first time the bi flag was ever used on US television. Kind of bizarre to think that of all shows, TNA would get there first.

Orlando Jordan is actually the biggest wrestling star who is actively participating in the Australian wrestling scene. He married an Australian girl and lives in Melbourne so whenever people want to use a WWE superstar without the hassle of paying a huge flight fare he's the guy brought in.
Apparently he charges like 1500 dollars for an appearance and then if you want him to sign some autographs or do a seminar he has some kind of weird hourly rate as well so you're paying like 2000+ for Orlando friggen Jordan. Needless to say with prices like that most promotions simply fly a guy out from the United States.
But yeah, that's what bothered me about Orlando Jordan. I'm all for charging for your services but you have the opportunity to improve the scene and lend your name to companies whilst making a lot more than most people on the card but you instead hold out for way more. If he was say 500 an appearance (Which is what he's worth and is still HUGE money for a days work) he really could have turned things around for a lot of the smaller companies.

And TNA actually got good praise and publicity for hiring an open gay wrestler, and they go and have him be every stereotype you can imagine rolled into one.
I have gay friends, and they sure as heck as don't act like that.

Raven told a story in a shoot he had with James Mitchell that there were big plans for the character but when Jordan came dressed like that and with the male valet, the character died. The gimmick was really offensive, I blame Russo for that bullshit. That asshole probably believes that bisexual people are all like that, like a poster above mentioned.
They had an opportunity to present an important and possibly interesting character and they chose they most offensive route.

Didn't he pitch the same gimmick to WWE before he got released?

I don't even see how it's needed. The entire concept's stupid, since wrestling isn't about romance typically the only ways to do a gay or bisexual character in it are either to make them stereotypes or have them do that irritating, "Have I told everyone I like guys in the past few days? No? Well, I do!" thing that's so common in shitty sitcoms.

Well the easy way would be a heel being an asshole about another wrestler being gay, the face stands up for themselves, wins and life goes on. Being gay is something you know about that character but not the whole character.

Being gay is something you know about that character but not the whole character. Even then, no real reason for it to come up to begin with without being awkward and forced about it, and it'd only really be good for that one storyline. Just not really a genre accommodating it since most of the characters are basically asexual.

Rusev is doing his heel foreigner schtick and brings up gay tolerance of how America is becoming weak and unmanly, gay dude takes offence. The Vaudevillains keep their talk of being from a bygone era going, and it starts similar to that Rusev one. Depending on the character, it's not that hard to do.

Yeah, but you'd need to establish in-universe that the guy's gay before making a big deal out of it, and there isn't really much of a way to organically do that without being blatant about it. Plus we've seen how gun-shy sponsors can be these days. While TNA'd probably go full-force with it regardless, with WWE they'd probably cancel plans for such a thing immediately after the first time someone complains about it.
