I haven't watched Buffy in general in quite a while, but looking through this list made me realize that I haven't watched an episode with Oz in forever.

I haven't watched Buffy in general in quite a while, but looking through this list made me realize that I haven't watched an episode with Oz in forever. I knew Seth Green left early. I knew Oz wouldn't make it past season 4. But I was still sad when he left. I was even more annoyed when I was there was a rumor (yeah, just a rumor) that he was gonna show up in Angel if there was a season 6.

I voted for Cordelia just based on the fact that I'm in love with Charisma Carpenter.

I voted for Cordelia just based on the fact that I'm in love with Charisma Carpenter. Always a valid reason to vote. Alyson Hannigan is a big part of why I voted for Willow, I like early Willow, even if, to be honest, much of the witch stuff just felt like something the writers pulled out of their ass. But I'm biased, I guess, I preferred the early part of the show to the escalation later on.

Wesley, Xander, and Lilah (won the coin flip with the Mayor). I'm shocked we have a Xander fan. Shocked, I tells ya What's wrong with that? He was the heart of the group, he was the only one without powers. Buffy was a slayer, Willow was a witch, Oz was a werewolf, Angel was a vampire, Captain Peroxide was a vampire, Giles was a badass with magic, Dawn was the key who was made out of Buffy (still don't get that), and there's Xander, he's got no powers but he wasn't going to stop fighting evil.

Spike was my first choice, I watched Buffy when I was pretty young with my dad (Must've been about 9/10) and I had a picture of Spike in a heart photo frame because I loved him so much.
Honorable mentions go to Buffy, Giles (where is his Funko Pop?!), Anya and Lilah. Buffy is my all time favourite show and I love mostly all the characters, even Dawn, except for Xander and Riley.

I voted Spike, Giles, Clem, Willow, and Mayor Wilkins. Willow was a close scratch for me, but Dark Willow helped her make the cut. Spike stayed fairly interesting throughout. Giles is the affable and slightly befuddled mentor type, which I often like. Clem was just amusing to me. Mayor Wilkins was probably my favorite Big Bad.

He was also obnoxious, judgemental and unfunny. He also broke Cordelia's heart after kissing Willow. Then he left Anya at the altar. He's lucky he was an army man for a day and maintained military training. Otherwise he'd have nothing to offer.

See I have to defend Xander a bit by seeing he had one of the most badass moments in the series by {Spoiler}Talking Dark Willow down and returning her to normal

Plus, after everything that happened that season, it felt pretty random for him to be the one saving the day

And jealous of Angel way past the point of it being understandable or anything you can defend. He also never, ever got called on the shitty things he did. No consequences, ever.

Did anybody really have to deal with consequences? Buffy always defended Spike, even when he was killing people, was going to let billions die because she didn't want to kill Dawn, she crapped on her friends multiple times, and even thought Wood was in the wrong for being pissed at Spike. Willow was part of that same kiss but got back together with Oz, and tried to end world which everybody forgave pretty freaking quickly. Spike tried to rape Buffy, punched Anya for daring to notice he had a soul, and constantly wore the jacket of Wood's mother that he took off of her after killing her in front of him. Andrew spent a season as one of the villains, showing he was more evil than Jonathan during that time, and murdered his best friend.

I'm only a week removed from finishing both shows, so the hype and need for discussion are still running through my veins. With that, I'll comment on everyone who has zero votes as of this post.
Joyce Summers: Token parental figure whose best moments were when she interacted with Spike.
Riley Finn: His entire purpose was to be Buffy's love interest. Outside of his soldier boy gimmick, he was kind of dull and had the unfortunate task of following Angel. It's hard to remember anything he did that didn't involve the Initiative.
Darla: She was a strong, well-developed character who was integral to Angel's backstory. Her departure was actually pretty sad. Plus, she has a very seductive voice.
Jonathan Levinson: Every high school has an outcast and it wouldn't have mattered if he disappeared after Season 3. But he stuck around and ultimately became a part of a lame (at first) group of "villains." But he got bonus points for doing the right thing and really should have been the one to stick around instead of Andrew.
Warren: This is a tough one. How can you like someone who ended up being one of the best villains in the series? The worst part is that he's the type of villain who could exist in the real world. He wasn't a vampire or a demon; he was a misogynist scumbag who killed Tara and still had to be taken down by a dark witch. That's pretty good for someone who began as the leader if a nerd trio that tried too hard to be supervillains.
Robin Wood: Had he shown up sooner, he probably would have been better received. He had the interesting backstory of being the son of the slayer who was killed by Spike. You could easily get mileage out of that. As it is, he was introduced in the final season and it was halfway done by the time we learned of his origins. By then, his issue with Spike was rushed so that we could focus on The First and wrap up the series. And what's up with him and Faith? Not sure that was even necessary, but it's not as bad as her randomly hooking up with Xander.
Connor: The less said about him, the better
Amy Madison: She had a lot of potential. Introduced in the second episode, Amy was a witch who just happened to be friendly with the Scooby gang. But she was instead pushed aside so that Willow could become the group's magic expert and she ultimately disappeared for several seasons after turning herself into a rat. She was eventually reintroduced and suddenly turned into a magic-abusing witch who corrupted Willow. I wouldn't be surprised if Willow and Anya would've been totally different if Amy was around the entire time.
Kate Lockley: It made sense for Angel to have an ally in the "real world." After all, he was still starting out at this point and needed assistance in fighting crime. Things began going down hill when she began distrusting Angel, but things could have been salvaged if the actress didn't decide to quit the show. She's another "what could've been."
Adam Doyle: Another character who started out strong but didn't stick around for the long haul. But his departure gave Cordelia a purpose (which led to her character evolving significantly) and allowed Wesley to fill a void.
Gavin Park: Outside his first couple appearance, he was mostly used as a thorn in Lilah's side before being killed. He was inconsequential.
Daniel Holtz: Was he really a villain? All he wanted was revenge against Angel for killing his family. Yes, he made Angel's life miserable and destroyed his relationship with Connor. But it's not like he was determined to kill everyone and take over the world, right?
Eve: Useless eye candy who seemingly tried to fill a void left by Cordelia before failing hard.
Gwen Raiden: Another character who stood out and probably could have been used more, at least in an anti-hero role. After all, it was never really established if she was a full-blown hero or villain. Plus, it looked like she and Gunn were about to develop a relationship.
Jasmine: Season 4's big baddy who was only around for about four or five episodes. The rest of the season, she wreaked havoc via Cordelia. It didn't help the other troublemakers for the season were her lava-rock monster and Connor. Basically, she got lost in the shuffle.
Justine Cooper: The poor man's Faith. That's all there is to say about her. That, and the last time we saw her, she was handcuffed to a pole with the key within reach.
Amanda: Received more attention than most potential slayers, but still got lost in the shuffle. She was still better than Kennedy.
Violet: Same as Amanda in every way (including being better than Kennedy). Gets bonus points for being Charlie in Supernatural.
Winifred's Parents: I like them so much more than Joyce.

Daniel Holtz: Was he really a villain? All he wanted was revenge against Angel for killing his family. Yes, he made Angel's life miserable and destroyed his relationship with Connor. But it's not like he was determined to kill everyone and take over the world, right? Holtz wasn't really a villain, he was a good man driven to do bad things. The writers made sure not to have Angel disparage Holtz, he only told Connor that Holtz framed him for killing Holtz, but he never said Holtz was terrible, and did a bad job raising Connor. Heck, even Darla believed that Holtz wasn't a villain for what he was doing.

While most of Buffy's antagonists were very black and white, Angel did shades of grey really well - Holtz was a good man overwhelmed by a lust for vengeance, Jasmine wanted to bring peace to the world at a terrible cost, Lindsey was always willing to do evil but even he had his principles... Hell, even Lilah got to show there was more to her than just being a conniving evil lawyer and proud of it.

I really felt Willow and (somewhat) Faith were upgraded for their Angel episodes before going back to normal on Buffy. Tara was the only Buffy character who should have graduated to Angel
