I just finished binge watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel. It damn near killed me, but it was a fun ride. Buffy was good at first, but Angel dominated toward the end. And the finale left me feeling pretty damn sad.
Anywho, who are your favorite characters? My top three are Wesley, Cordelia and Fred (Team Angel!).

Buzzfeed ranked 117 characters and there are plenty of reasons why she came in at No. 117. She's worse than Connor.

Wesley by a very, very, very long way. His slow maturation from a snivelling coward who's in way over his head to a fearless, battle-worn leader was fantastic and felt completely natural.
Honourable mentions: Willow, Fred, Spike, and Lilah.

Honorable mention in some order to Giles, Cordy, Wesley, Willow, Lorne, and not Xander. Never Xander.

I also binge watched the majority of Buffy and Angel a couple of years back. One of my best ever Netflix decisions! I now regard them both as two of my all time favourite shows. I should've watched them back in the late 90s/early 2000s, better late than never though! Buffy had a great run with 7 seasons, but Angel was finished too soon. I thought Angel's final season really breathed a potential new life into the show, with the team running Wolfram & Hart and the inclusion of Spike as a full time character. It easily could've gone on for a few more years at least.
I agree with Death to Analog about Wesley. It was great to watch his character development from his first days in Buffy to the character he became in Angel. The same can be said for Cordelia.
All time favourite character though? For me, it has to be Spike. (Nothing beats Season 2 era Spike and his double act with Drusilla!)
Honorable Mentions: Wesley, Drusilla, Giles, Willow, Lilah Morgan, Lorne

It easily could've gone on for a few more years at least. I totally agree, and the reason it was cancelled was stupid. In February Whedon pushed The WB's network head for early renewal so they could get as much prep time as possible and keep as many of his crew together for season six; the studio head pretty much had his hands tied and couldn't give them an early renewal, and so cancelled the show because Whedon essentially told him "Renew us early or not at all." It later emerged that had Whedon not pushed for early renewal and waited until May as usual the show would've continued.

Wesley is the obvious winner, but for me, Angel begins and ends with Lindsey. He was there from the first episode of the spin-off, and his departure was when I truly felt the show's looming demise (especially because his parting words echoed my exact thoughts at the moment). In my head, there exists action figures for every Lindsey incarnation, including Disco Lindsey, Cowboy Lindsey, Uber Shaman Lindsey, Evil-hand Lindsey, etc.

Wesley, Faith, Fred sadface, and Spike. Also I would like to go on record saying at least Connor got better once they wiped his memory. Kennedy had zero redeeming features

I've been going through a rewatch myself and I'm reminded about how great Angel was with developing Wesley. He went from being a sniveling prick in Buffy to a badass demon hunter, he's easily my favorite. Spike's a close second because he's at the center of one of my favorite episodes (Fool for Love) and he's just all around great, but he kind of gets played out in the later seasons of the show. Luckily he goes out with style in the final season of Angel. Plus this, this should be reason enough to love Spike.

Wesley, Spike, Gunn (before they ruined him by making him all lovey-dovey with Fred), Anya, Oz. Most of the Scooby Gang were awful self-centered douchebags.

I remember doing a Buffy personality test and being so pissed that I got Xander.
